I'm getting excited to try out the Z9X 8K soon! It's my first time owning a Zidoo box and I have a couple questions:

    1) What's the name of the option that converts SDR and HDR into Dolby Vision? Is it really good/recommended, or pretty much just personal preference?

    2) I have an LG G4 which has quite good DV handling, should I use TV-led or Player-led (LLDV)?
The reason I ask is because someone said that the Zidoo boxes don't really have a true TV-led signal so we're better off just using LLDV even if our TV has excellent DV handling.

    1) VS10 - it does a good job but it is down to personal preference
    2) Use the default which is TV Led

Guided 3 cases of HDD > 16 Tbyte owners which got disc corruptions when filling up their discs. No warning or errors are given. Putting those discs into a W10/W11 machine showed corruption. In all 3 cases we reduced the formatted area below 32-bit and then all problems were magically gone.
Feel free to try it but I highly recommend having copies of the content.

You can tell me how a 32-bit SATA driver using 4K physical sector addressing can go above that limit? Windows moved to 64-bit at the same time so no problems there.

    VS10

    couple examples
original Space 1999 tv series in 4k
with hdr set to normal they look ok but black skies outside moonbase ie stars etc were always greyish and internal shots were dull/lifeless
Turn on DV VS10 and the outside moonbase shots change to nice inky black "skies" with easily seen stars ,and internal shots pop with well defined blacks and HDR colouring

I started to watch my Sg Atlantis bluray disks on my pana 4k player ,but it all seemed flat/lifeless ,even with turning my Pana l1500 oled to vivid
I cpied each epi using Makemkv ( ie 8 g per epi) and ran them on my Z9X Pro with DV VS10 (its always on for me)
night and day difference with everything looking way better ie hdr colours and well defined black levels

i watch loads of older 720/1080p sdr TV epis and always use DV VS10 to make them look way better

Not sure how long this will take to sink in - this was not a decision taken by Zidoo - The SOC does not support 3D.

Not sure if this is a silly question or whether it’s already been asked - but why aren’t you using a SoC like S922X-J? Fine, it doesn’t do 8K but it does FEL Dolby Vision right?

Thank you for the replies everyone! Looks like I'll definitely be setting it to TV-led Dolby Vision.

That sounds awesome! I looked at some youtube videos of the Zidoo options menu and I only see "Dolby Vision VS10 Engine(Output HDR)" and "Dolby Vision VS10 Engine(Output SDR)". Which is the correct option that converts both SDR and HDR into Dolby Vision?

You have an LG G4 so with the existing Zidoo range you would also see 'Dolby Vision VS10 Engine(Output DV)'. This would output all non DV video as VS10 DV. However as you would be using 'TV Led' DV any actual DV media would be passed through unchanged to the TV. The new range has more extensive settings for the use of VS10. See this post:

That clears things up, thanks! So I'll just need to make all the "Dolby VS10 for ___ Content" say Yes. What about the options above that, do they all need to be changed to DV or keep them default?

With my Pro1000 and Sony 950H, I really liked everything set to be output as DV, with the 2020/player led options being selected.

Now with the Bravia 9 using the "Professional" default picture processing settings for all but DV, I find auto setting on the Zidoo works best for me. I like the way the Sony processes standard, HiDef, HDR, DV using tv led. That surprised me.

I guess when I get the Zidoo 8K, I will have to see what works for me.

I also have the Sony 950H, but im afraid this TV is not TV Led

No it isn't TV led, which is why I was using the player led "Dolby Vision Low Latency LLDV,YUV422,12BIT" setting on the Zidoo under Display/HDR settings.

It gave me a great picture that I really liked.
I was very surprised to find the Bravia 9 with TVled was so much better.

@blenky has always been kind and generous with his replies. Helping and providing much needed information as always. Thanks blenky!
My question is do I really need to use USB power HUB with my Z9X pro or even with the upcoming 8K model? I'm mostly connecting a single 5TB WD external drive. Is it really a necessity?
Also I read few comments where users are using 4amp power supply to power up their devices, Doing this eliminates the need of connecting external power hub?
I believe connecting power supply which is more than rated number is not safe and might harm the device in a long run.
@Markswift2003 We need your input here.

i run both my Z9X and newer Z9X Pro ,both with usually 2 non powered usb 1 -5 TB Hdds and have no issues
i will be running my new Z30 8k off a larger psu brick ,just because ill have an internl 4 TB music drive and still have 1 or 2 USB non powered drives plugged in too
(basiccly i smb my tv epis and watch my 4k movies direct from usb )

I used to run a powered 7 port switchable usb hub into my Z9X . id just have the non used drives switched off so only 1 on at a time . Stopped after the second drive got corrupted using it.
    Ive had none corrupt since
Possibly due to being a cheap ali express hub or to me switching drives off once used and next one on while zidoo was still powered up

Not sure what's frame packed 3D but can you confirm if the upcoming z9X 8K will support Top to Bottom 3D, resolution Width : 1 920 pixels, Height : 2 160 pixels? 3D is really important to me.
