Hi Mark, sorry, have you had the opportunity to try Kodi with the 928x? For me, the use and operation of Kodi in Zidoo is very important.
    thank you

This menu item with these individual settings for HDR looks very promising and much better than in the Z9x!
This should make LLDV output possible again with HDR10 input via the VS10 engine, right...?

I wonder if if they wanted to, could they do it in the existing models - probably yes, but....
If you want, you have to buy new ones :)

    Serious question:

Since there won’t be any DV FEL, what is the real benefit of the Armlogic chip compared to the RTD1619DR devices like the Z9X?

Even the RTD1619BPD made no real sense - and the firmware updates were a real downer.

Yes, it may be faster, and the gui is nicer but other than than? There is not even „real“ content in 8K or AV1.

The by far weakest part of the media players was using it as a Music Player/Streamer. There is a world of difference compared with previous generations here. Using your 4K big TV as a cloned touch screen for music via the Remote Control APP is a must see to believe. Using a tablet or better iPad is highly recommended.

But agreed as a pure local Video Player without using internal/external Library Services and/or Movie Wall, then I would keep my old player. Above all if your TV does DV & HDR10+ without any need for DV10 conversions.
I don't qualify the PQ on Armlogic SOC's much higher. Improvements and differences are marginal using my Homatics box having such an Armlogic processor too.

Zidoo needs to put out a statement on what they guarantee the support life of these models is going to be. After the way they abandoned other models as soon as a new one came, after releasing buggy firmware to boot, I'm very leery about buying any new product from them. I know I'm not alone either.

Dune says it supports it. Why doesn't it support Zidoo which has the same chipset?

Dune doesn't support DV FEL does it? Which box?

I will try to give an understandable answer on this. I have done many reviews on media players and own a stack of these including multiple Zidoo and also Dune models.

First Dolby Laboratories created a slew or call it family of DV versions/implementations. The most complex version of that family is DV FEL which is an enhancement method.
The resolution is enhanced form 10-bit to 12-bit with the additional processing which happens in parallel. The first thing being crucial is that actually seeing the extra details between 10-bit and 12-bit needs a good eye and is mostly only well observed when using test or demo material and pausing the screen to look for differences.

The standard and full support for DV FEL is realized by making overlays using 2 video processors working in parallel. The original BD standard mandated the use of dual processors above all with Picture-in Picture (PIP) in mind not DV FEL.
PIP hardly ever got implemented on real BD disc released. Got myself exactly 2 releases using it. None of all current media players can reproduce these. So none has 100% DV FEL support as a consequence.
The Realtek and also latest Amlogic 8K processors (the same used by Dune and Zidoo again) don't have dual 4K video processing engines but have a main video process and additional graphical processors. Via various technical approaches one can produce a similar result for the DV FEL enhancements approaching the visual effect. All brands do this with results being close to each other and even close to the original. Depending on the actual demo/test scene one or the other method may do a (slightly) better job proving nothing.
Some may call it full support other are more honest and say we come close.

Bottom line what I have seen on live movies is that differences are minimal even compared with a real BD player like my OPPO 203. Personally don't care at all and for me it remains an academic/technical not relevant discussion. Also keep in mind the number of movies with DV FEL is not that big. Maybe HDR10+ is even better but those BD's may even be called sporadic.

Well f**k me -that looks awesome! Always disliked the backward step the 1619BPD range had to take with source output. Loving this.

if you are saying the new range will have mp8 like the dmp, it should be able to convert mch dsd to mch pcm over hdmi right? If i recall correctly the dmp have that.
That is really what i miss with the z9x pro a fine music player as for videos i use emby with ext player enabled

From Mark on AVSForums "BD Menu is as perfect as I've seen in any player, disc based or otherwise."

    https://www.avsforum.com/posts/63414056/

This is music to my ears! Zidoo have always struggled (and given up) with BD Menu support.

Even better both will do native MCH DSD over HDMI (for DSD64) if supported by the AMP using the 2nd HDMI DSD/Audio port.
Remark: Got it never working reliable with my Neo Alpha (unpredictable falling back to 2CH).

I am curious to see/try that one. :D
It should also be fluent which always remained a serious problem too.
Should allow me to retire my Dune (and OPPO) from the rack.

Oh yes no 3D support.
I do like 3D and my Epson projector does an excellent job for it. Have a still 1080P TV in my bedroom just for that too.

Yes. I used to have a Dune many years ago. BD playback was practically 100% and very fluent. It was just like playing a disk system. If Zidoo has achieved that - I will be massively impressed!

    Cool:

    1. Will it play 2.0/4.0/5.1 WAV/FLAC/DSF gaplessly?

    2. Will the V12 Bluetooth remote work with it or will it come with its own Bluetooth remote?

    3. Will it play PCM 5.1 via MKV? There are a handful of Blu-rays (e.g., There Will Be Blood) with these audio streams and the Z9X can't play handle them (they play as some weird mix coming from the fronts and one surround as I recall - a big ol' mess anyway).

    4. If I stop a 4K MKV with Dolby Vision to take a leak mid-movie, will it stutter all over the place when I press play again?

Yes - HDR/VS10 settings are now extremely flexible.

It'll confuse people I know - there are some instances where even if you set VS10 to No it still needs to be used - for example, P5 conversion will always need VS10 because of how the colour space for P5 works. But selection and operation is entirely logical - we spent a long time getting this right!
