Would you mind clarifying this please? Only the UHD8000 allows you to navigate native streaming apps using the tv interface? So the other models can only navigate local music and stream servives/protocols from other devices, a less featured Music 8.0?

For dsd to pcm mch it is the z3000 and uhd8000 right?

 

Just contacted the Zidoo vender and he mentioned that there's absolutely no need to upgrade to 8K model considering the huge price hike. He also mentioned the AI ruins the creators intend picture so Z9X pro is best in his opinion.
Honestly, No need to upgrade until you read some really great reviews. Also there is not confirmation on how much powerful this amlogic chip would be compared to the BPD chip. Also both the OS uses 32 bits instead 64 if 'm not wrong.

 

Oh they do use it, be sure of that for smart buffering and caching.

A 64-bit OS would only double size the OS itself and only helps for loading 64-bit APP's in high memory. None of the APP's on these players is 64-bits so it would be contra productive.
Like on Windows 64-bit or Linux 64-bit this only makes sense also using 64-bit applications as only these can access high memory and be loaded into it.

You should use a Smartphone or better Tablet/iPad to navigate Music player as it makes your TV touch control by cloning the screen (called cast mode here). All Music Streaming services are controlled perfect that way. The same way as directly installed on your phone.

DSD => PCM works the same on all models. In fact everything works the same on all models except for ports and/or DAC being included or not.

No as the code and CPU power is very different. We can only hope some corrections and improvements are ported one day or the other. There are a lot of things which got solved/improved.

Any PSU with 12V and the correct connector will work. Re-using the old brick PSU is not a problem. I always use a 12V 4A with all my units of any brand. Also used a huge 2 port 12V 5A Linear PSU for a while but that did not improve anything. Removed it from my rack again.

That is a huge miss. They may be doing that on purpose?

AI is not a big goody and neither 8K for most but many other things are. What about a nearly perfect music player/streamer, BD ISO with BD Menu running smooth and correct, 2x CPU speed etc etc.
So I disagree totally with your vendor. They are for sure worth that extra price. The price/performance ratio is even better for these new series.

Eh, the updated interface on and the bevy of new features and options are enough to justify an upgrade for me. This is a niche product with a niche usecase at the end of the day.

 

What worries me most in KJC's message is the part where he says that the seller seems to believe
that the presence of AI affects the image, to the point of altering the visual which would no longer
conform to the intentions of the creator.

Which seems to mean that not only does this AI affect the image in order to no longer respect cinema standards,
but that we would also not be able to deactivate the intervention of this AI ?

If this is the case (and therefore the seller does not say anything stupid on this specific point),
it would really be extremely damaging. I chose Zidoo precisely because it was the brand I tested
which applied the least artificial processing to the image and most respected the native image
of the content viewed.

My TV is calibrated by a professional precisely to have the guarantee of an image as close as possible
to the intentions of the creator.
Respect for the image remains the most important selection criterion for me, above all the other advantages of the player.

Could @Markswift2003 perhaps, who has the player under test, give his opinion on this point, and possibly reassure
on the fact that this AI can be deactivated, or at least that it does not distort the image such as this seller seems to claim it ?

 

I think he wrote somewhere that he asked the Creators to turn it off, and it's probably turned off by default - but we'll wait for confirmation

 

I doubt it - it's all based around the new UI. But I don't know for certain.

 

Yes - originally AI functions were only accessible through Developer Mode and one of them defaulted to On (I forget which one).

I asked for these settings to be exposed in the UI and to default to Off.

I'm afraid it's the non-removable antennas like the Z9X Pro. :-(

 

Manufacturers like their features and some are On by Default just to showoff. Could happen with AI.
On Eversolo background images is On by default as an example. Big mistake in my simplistic perception.

As it can be turned of not a real problem, but look for these things.

 

Yeah still working on my Dune. Only that one does not store the downloads nicely correctly named in the right place together with the source.
