That's understandable to some extent... BUT how can the manufacturer of these USB drives think they might work? You'd need more than 2 USB3, and more than 3 USB2 ports for them to work!!! Maybe they come with external power supplies, uh?
I doubt that the problem is using a drive without external power supply. I have tried a dual cable myself, and that didn't solve the problem. Also, user "Heniz" writes in this thread that he tried with an external power supply without success. Also, several users have tested their drives successfully on a computer, but connected to the A6, it won't work. And IF the problem is underpowering, how does that explain how several users (myself included) only succeed in ripping 1 (one!) CD, only to fail any subsequent attempts after that?
I use Samsung DVD Writer (SE SO84) (about 10 yrs old). It has 2 USB plugs, presumably for more power. Initially I plugged just 1 USB plug into the USB 3.0 OTG port. It played CDs but when I tried to rip, the DMP-A6 was unable to read the first track and told me there was No CD. It then took me back to the CD player menu. When I plugged the second USB plug into the adjoining USB type A (audio) jack, I was able to rip the entire CD (11 tracks). It also embedded album art into the file. It took no more than a minute or so, so I thought it missed some tracks. All tracks plus album art appeared on my "New Volume" (SSD). Plays fine. I usually rip using this external drive with Windows laptop and JRiver Media Player. That took much longer.
My first try was just playing CDs, worked like a charm. Today got installed my 4TB SSD and tried to actually rip a CD. CD with 17 songs took less than 3 minutes, it also have saved all Information: Artist, Album, Songs names and Album Art. It rips really fast.
I repeat myself: I have tried 6 drives, 3 Chinese branded, 2 component branded and 1 unknown. Each plays and burns perfectly on my mac desktop. Connected to the A6, each drive can be heard spinning but the A6 reads "No Disc". Again, it is not for the consumer to sort this out. From Mirror's response it appears to be an A6 hardware issue. If there are 1 or 2 drives that will reliably interface with the A6, Eversolo should identify them.
MSI Model : Wind Drive UO800-K It’s a DVD RW Drive. 14 years old but it continues to serve me well. Comes standard with a dual USB cable. Ripping and playing.no issues thanks

Hello, first take a deep breath! I accidentally found a solution to the problem (at least for me). because of the frequent plugging of the USB3 cable of the cd player I have for convenience a 20 cm long USB extension cable, but this not USB3 but only USB2 interposed. The player is also still connected to the external power supply. And o miracle, now all CD are recognized, played and ripped. Please laugh hard now! Greetings Heinz Translated with DeepL
One user had written that his 10 year old CD drive works very well with the A6. Since I now have a USB2 cable in the actual USB3 way interconnected, it occurs to me that possibly current drives deliver data too quickly and the USB2 part then has a braking effect. Can that be? Greetings Heinz
I do suspect timing to be an issue here. Don't think it is a power via USB issue. Would not be really surprised if USB2 worked better. Seen only old drives reported as working well.
I still think it’s a power issue. USB3.0 utilises more power than USB2.0 which is slower (not too slow for ripping).
Well my Samsung DVD writer did work the first time. Now, several days later, the A6 recognizes the CD (album art, track names) and can play the CD. When I press the CD Ripper icon and press Start, the DVD drive rotates several times, the screen shows "No CD", starts reading the "CD-Rom1", finds and displays album art and track names. Rebooting has no effect. My guess is the CD ripper software has a " reading" problem while the CD player software works fine.
Just tried plugging in one of the two usb A into a wall wart used for charging and cleaned the laser so it could "see" better. Same outcome...play but not rip. So flaky, maybe it'll work tomorrow. Thanks for tip.
For me, it works most of the time. So far I tried ripping 10 CDs, 2 of which can't be played or rip as the app kept resetting The rest no problem. Personally no real concern, since my main use for the A6 is as a Streamer
Its a great streamer but I am learning it can do lots more. Being so versatile means it can get complicated. Network Streamers are specialized computers with (hopefully) user-friendly, intuitive GUIs. Intermittent issues with the A6 can be as frustrating as using a Windows PC.
Yes, it is, isn't it. Like when I first have the A6, it does not work with my DAC via USB and I have guests coming in to have a listen to it. Gratefully it is resolved in 2 weeks with the current firmware. Or I was happily ripping my first 6 CDs without issue, then #7 and #8 has issues. Good the next 2 CDs are clean I think @mirror mention they have bought some CD drives. Hopefully this will get stabilized soon.
