I’ve also noticed that we now get a splash screen of the movie (with logo etc) before the bluray menu appears - this is different to previous behaviour, as this would only appear when going straight to the film.

So, I’m wondering why they claim that bluray menus are so much better on the new devices than on the old ones, for me the performance is the same. The same ISOs do not play on any Zodoo.

Bloody marvellous idea that! I'd love it if I could link to Google Photos. Surely there must be some way of using your own Screensaver - @Markswift2003 is this definately not possible ?

Not a clue, I don't let the most evil corporation on the planet (after Meta) have access to my photos ;)

    Hello,

Menu "Display" -> "Screen ratio" --> "Ratio" has disapear with the new Z9X 8K. Why?
This feature is mandatory for user having 2.35 cinemascope screen.

    Thanks for your help.

Not sure if this is true but I read on a Dune forum that Dune actively encourage users to contact them if they come across a problematic bluray. Dune then spend time to ensure that it works when next firmware is released.

For me they are much better overall. They are faster and smoother. Some problematic ones are fixed for me - but not all. Maybe Zidoo will now spend time, like Dune, to maintain and improve this feature.

Yes it's a great little app. You can link Google photos and a few other cloud services. Also works with local files. Lots of options for how the photos are displayed and with what info. However if the new boxes don't allow you to choose your own screensaver.....

Help me understand: all media players of any brand are designed and conceived to best play video files and have the convenience of having a personalized video archive. So I don't understand this insistence on playing Blu-ray ISO files at all costs. If someone loves looking at the menu of Bluray discs, he can easily buy a nice Panasonic UB9000 player and solve the problem. I believe the best use of media players is to do a 1:1 rip of just the movie from the original bluray disc.

Or you buy a Dune HD that plays any bluray ISO you feed it. It's still absurd that even today with the new range, they haven't solved this problem that has been going on for years! I'm shocked!

I haven't read about active requests, but long-time Dune users definitely know.

Dune has replied to me once on this theme: "BD menu is an important feature for many users (we received hundreds of requests) and critical for marketing to distributors in all regions. This is the main function, as the player is positioned as a player for various popular file formats, including Hi-End formats, which include images."

In my opinion, if you want to watch a BD or DVD menu, put a disc in your BD/DVD player and enjoy it.
For me it's just a waste of developers time, but Dune has a different opinion and if I use a Dune then I have to live with it being prioritised.

For me, I don't consider it a big problem that Zidoo can't play ISO files. If I want to navigate through the menus or watch extra content, I put the original disc directly into the bluray player. If I want to watch a film directly I use the Zidoo. I prefer to use the maximum of both technologies according to my needs.

They shouldn’t advertise it as a feature if it doesn’t work properly

You're right, but that's the law of marketing. However, nothing is perfect in this world.

Don’t get me wrong I’ve still bought a new Z9X 8k and I think it’s a wonderful device, but I’m disappointed that it advertises a much improved iso menu capability, and it’s not. Strictly speaking, never mind marketing, it could be seen as misleading and contravening the trade descriptions act. A device at 1/2 the price can do this, no problem (Dune HD Homatics) - but the poster wall and menus are shockingly amateur.
