Sorry, but you're phrasing it wrong. You can't claim that Dune 8K generally stutters. The player has never stuttered for me or anyone else. The player stutters for you, this can have various reasons, but as I said, there is no generally problem.

Big grin. Following, and it is funny to read here what the Dune 8K is apperantly suffering from. 95 % is basically trash & fanboytalk. It does not stutter, since if it would stutter, i for one would return the unit.
Stuttering is basically and for 99.9 % local network issues, a crappy rip, or some other dubious file.

The Dune 8K is working like a charm here. Very very fast, and plays all the files i feed it.

    carryon & enjoy the S928x

True. I, and many others, never saw stutters on the previous Zidoo range and I'm not seeing any stutters on the new SoC. I'm not saying g there hasn't been issues in the past but generally playback has been fine. As you say these issue are usually down to some issue on the chain.

You are clearly a Dune fanboy so give it a rest will you please. My Dune 8K stutters playing twister a simple uhdbr rip and it’s not my setup as Zidoo Z9X Pro plays it perfectly, so does my Ugoos am6b+ and Shield. I can agree my lip synch problems is my setup because my tv has processing lag and I don’t use eArc but still there is somehow no lip synch issues on my Zidoo players only. The others have lip synch that I need to correct (well the shield is also ok but one started making lip synch issues so I switched it for my backup one and it fixed it). I am happy for you if it’s perfect and enjoy it as in the end we all have a player we prefer and that’s fine but don’t deny people’s problems as fanboyism because you like Dune so much.

yes that bug on resume is gone but vc-1 in general frameskips slightly constantly for me. The other codecs so far plays correctly. Also there is buggy blocks appearing on austin powers interludes only exactly like on Dune 8K so it’s a s928x soc vc-1 hw decoding bug. Can provide a test file later if you want to see it.

A test file would be useful for the Zidoo techs to take a look at.

I only have 10 VC-1 files in my entire collection - they're all 1080p BluRay rips to MKV.

I just spent the last half hour or so testing all of them and all played with no issues - no frame drops at all, no issues navigating.

As @blenky says, can you provide a short clip (2 mins) of a file that has this problem?

For the stuttering testing my austin powers clip from before probably stutters (unless it’s the sound making the stuttering since that clip has no sound).
I think big trouble in little china stutters too and its avc with dtshd ma but I really need to confirm this first before confirming.

For the blocks bug I will post it later but seems like a s928x bug as dune 8k has identical blocks. It’s only in austin powers short interludes where he dances with his band for some reason. No blocks on other SoCs

Indeed, 2 Zidoo's here, and they only stutter if the rip is crap. Also on these machines 99.9% plays fine.

Ok - I can see something on the Austin Powers clip - but because of all the movement in that clip, it's not obvious and I can't tell if it's a frame repeat or a drop - what we really need is a slow pan shot to show it.

There's also that odd artifact and freeze frame thing going on (when he takes the pics of the girls) which also happens on the Dune AML box which is a bit of worry.

Doesn't happen on the Realtek boxes.

Problem is, I have to send it to the devs and they have to see it and I'm not convinced that clip will do it.

It's good for the artifacts, but I really need a pan with the frame repeat/loss obvious.

ok I will try to find one that pans. I see the stutters in my star trek original series vc-1 bluray rips too. It is indeed slight but I see any stutter I am crazy like that

At first glance s928x hw acceleration is not the best on vc-1.

For your information, my ugoos s922x has bad vc-1 too just other problems. Basically the picture has horizontal lines like its in low res / badly deinterlaced even if it’s austin powers 1080p file. It is a known issue in threads in s922x vc1 hw decoding mode. The fix is to switch to SW mode in kodi (coreelec) but then the video stutters but looks ok visually. It stutters probably becsuse of kodi as the cpu usage of s922x is waay low on 1080p 24 vc-1 decoding. Maybe sw mode on z9x 8k would work as a last resort.

I'm the same - it takes one dropped frame and that's me out.

I'll send the Austin Powers clip as an example of the artifacts but let's find a good pan to show the frame drop properly...

Found some more VC-1 encodes... Will check - often start logos like the Paramount mountain are good for showing this sort of thing.

So even my austin clip does the squares artifacts? I didn’t remember that ok.This is like an MVP clip lol!

vc-1 is so badly supported …

Ok - got one - Tomb Raider, Cradle of something or other and the start is a beautiful aerial shot over the sea followed by the Paramount logo! And frame repeats!!

(I think the issue is frame repeats rather than drops)

But if you have anything else, that would also be good - the more I can throw at them, the better.

    Excellent thank you!

    I will check.

About the snappiness of scanning in files and chapter skips what do you think? Can they bring it to Z9X pro levels of instant goodness?

I did more tests and although it is fast in a lot of videos (not z9x pro fast but close), it makes some 3s pause on some 29,97 videos when i skip forward mostly or chapter skips.

Also the overlay makes videos stutter like I said which is not too pro compared to all other boxes I have.

That was in my bug list before release, so I'll keep pushing that ;)

    Code:
(IMPORTANT) Resume after seek is not immediate
If you seek or jump chapter using arrow keys, PgUp/Dn, or number keys to jump to a percentage, playback is not immediate – the image freezes for about a second which looks very inelegant (by comparison the Dune does not do this and playback is immediate so it’s not a SOC issue).
    To replicate:
    1. Play any video file
    2. Seek forward or backward using arrow keys
    3. Note image freezes for a second or so before playing
    4. Can also be seen using Chapters (PgUp/Dn) and percentage seek (number keys)

    You are quite excellent ahah!

Are you the reason z9x pro is so consistently snappy because no player is that snappy on everything not even dunes or coreelec which pauses on some codecs or framerate.

There's quite a lot of me in these players, but no, the credit has to go to the Zidoo devs.
