    @Markswift2003 ,

Do you know if point #8 above includes a fix for the stuttering when resuming playback of VC-1 files that I found out a month or so ago and that you transmitted to the Zidoo devs?

It plays all Dolby Vision files as Dolby Vision but in the case of FEL it only uses the base layer and RPU.

Profile 5 and 8 are single layer only so FEL is irrelevant - they're denoted by dvhe.05.xx and dvhe.08.xx respectively (05/08 is the Profile and xx is the Level - to do with pixel rate and thus framerate).

Profile 7 is the only prevalent dual layer format (also 4 and 9 but they're not used commercially) and denoted by dvhe.07.xx.

Unfortunately there's no easy way to tell if a Profile 7 file is MEL or FEL - certainly MediaInfo won't tell you (no idea why!). MakeMKV is the only program I know that can tell you (easily).

Don't know - I haven't been sent this firmware because I'm working on the new models. I'll get a copy on Monday.

Shh, I have 1.0.88 and its not fixed - just tested your original file. Exactly same issue. This is an internal beta so maybe fixed in public release?

So, just so I'm clear, if Zidoo support previous generations, they are bad, if they don't support previous generations, then they are bad? Right, clear.

So you complain when there's no firmware and you complain when there is firmware.

    Brilliant.

What's support usually like for older models once newer models are released, in terms of firmware updates?
Surprised to hear about newer models while there's still a lot of work to be done on the previous ones no?

Really hoping Zidoo team to not discontinue support for older models. Hoping them to fix all the issues and keep up flooded with the firmware.

Yup. I don't expect Zidoo to be supporting their products anywhere at the level Samsung or Google would for their recent phones for example, giving up to 7 years of software and security support. But depending on how Zidoo play this, is going to say a lot for how they support their future products.

Says SACD playback is optimized. I hope that means MCH will finally be available as that is the last thing I need to make this my all in one solution.

Because it is old/obsolete it can be shared now to show that tapping on my ruby slippers three time worked.

    Hi All,

I posted here back on 2 July 2024, about having updated to the latest firmware v1.0.86 and seeking help as my Zidoo Z9X Pro stopped showing one of my HDDs.

I would like to report that the retailer kindly flushed the machine for me (as I am not very tech savvy) back to the previous v1.0.52 firmware and ALL previous problems have magically and immediately disappeared.
When I received the machine back a couple of days ago with the previous firmware (v1.0.52), I simply plugged EVERYTHING the way it was before and now all HDDs are visible and active etc.

Thank you to everyone who suggested various other fixes.
I will definitely take into consideration some of the suggestions here such as getting a powered USB hub instead of connecting all HDDs directly to the Z9X Pro, which makes sense.
But this episode clearly goes to show that the latest firmware is causing problems. The proof is in the pudding.

Sadly these media players are still too many years away from working properly and they should be sold with a word of caution. Because unless you are tech savvy and have plenty of time in your hands to fiddle with these things, a lot can go wrong and the experience can be pretty frustrating.

So I suggest that if your Zidoo is working as you expect, then DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT update it's firmware. Actually, if you walk near it make sure that you hold your breath!

    Cheers.
