Um please i need the actual settings, if you disable "Direct Path" than none of my player changes are active, that's the default http stream handling via external player.
So what does "Got it working now" mean?

PS: I guess, i will just disabled the default http stream cases completely for now, since its really hard to understand what users are doing and whats working for them and what not.

    Apologies for the confusion.
The direct path is disabled & files will play now (via the default http stream handling external player). So, you're right; none of your player changes are active, but at least I know there's nothing majorly wrong. It's a start...

ok thats what i guessed, as noted i want to get smb/nfs working first, since thats the best way to play atm. I know that getting http streams working is important too, since otherwise transcoding can't work and novice users have no clue how to setup "network paths" or setup smb/nfs shares properly.

So sorry for the confusion, for the next "beta1-fix1" i will disable http and player choice completely, so i can focus on getting feedback on the actual changes.

NFS not working for me either. I'm running 10.8 on a linux server. I double-checked the path name I set on the server. I get a 'Can't play video' message at the bottom of the screen. It will start playback with Direct Path turned off, but I assume that is not pulling it over NFS.

Actually i did just retry/change some stuff and turns out i could fix the http streaming, so it works fine with my changes. Direct path still works better, but now http is stable enough to enable it by default.
So re-check the beta2 settings if you want to keep direct-path's. I also disabled all settings that are irrelevant for Zidoo player and force only Zidoo, so i don't get confusing support issues.

A few things with beta 2:

During playback, I couldn't bring up on the on-screen menu for subtitles, etc. I thought I saw that working in beta 1 though.

Beta 2 wouldn't install until I uninstalled beta 1; so once installed, I had to re-configure the client.

When you start playback, the screen just says 'stream' instead of a title. That may be a limitation of the Zidoo player though.

    mhh need to check this

Yeah the zidoo apk installer is weird, i tested updating from a internal 0.13.6-beta2 to 0.13.6.1-beta2 and this was recognized as "upgrade" and worked.
So i did not test going from 0.13.6-beta1 to 0.13.6.1-beta2, maybe the zidoo installer is confused because of the new sub version?
Anyway will try to test those upgrade cases for the next versions, thanks.

PS: You can install Amaze as alternative: https://github.com/TeamAmaze/AmazeFileManager

I have the same install problem as above with beta2 so I tried Amaze, but the problem persists.

That is what I am seeing, with direct checked. It tries to play and says video failed to load, It is sending it to zidoo player, but it errors out.

Ok, i had uninstall the first beta as well. Failed with zidoo installer.
Tried your suggestion with the outher file manager app and deleted the beta 1 and installed.
Note: Both installers complained about play secure and it had to be overridden( something that did not occur in the first beta
After a while it installed and was set up. I tried with both direct toggled on and off.
    smb works with toggled on
    nfs errors out
All seem to be playing via http direct stream. but both show an attempt via smb and nfs via logs.
The end result is http stream though, and it is much quicker than it was before.
I realized that transcoding was enabled on my jellyfin user profile, but it was still sending direct, so I turned that off on the user and its still playing fine via http: stream.
As long as smb is in the server config on share it sends to zidooplayer, as soon as you change that to nfs it breaks ( at least on synology)
I dont know about debian wsl and nfs setup but I know you can use winnfsd server on windows to set up a test nfs server. You just copy the smb shares into a config file and nfs takes over.
    https://github.com/winnfsd/winnfsd

For clarification: when you press pause on zidoo and it shows a clean file name vs. a long address with apikey exposed, that is likely direct vs stream, correct? I have it set to show mediainfo osd when i press pause. This can also be triggered from the "info" key as well.

If that is the case SMB may be functioning as expected via direct. Its just wierd because the log from jellyfin server shows direct for both. even though stream is obviously the end result. for sure with direct turned off.

The only thing that causes a crash or fail is nfs as the file share and directaccess=on

3D ISO working via direct play smb
4k mkv working via direct play smb
1080p mkv works via direct play smb
4KUHD BDMV works via direct play smb
BD BDMV works via direct play smb

Thats all i have to test. Its great that jellyfin will send the bdmv folder over, I dont think it is supported for sure in http stream and jellyfin has issues with scanning bdmv into its library too , picks up duplicate streams on 3d ( ie the mvc stream and 1080p stream. All my 3d movies are in ISO format though. So far so good. Keep up the good work. All are being sent to Zidoo Player as expected.

Can confirm that with latest version, upgrade worked as expected, and on-screen overlay is back.

Ah yes i remember winnfsd, i think i can also try my openwrt router. I suspect i miss some special extra setup for a "nfs://" URI, compared to "smb://".

This is awesome, works brilliantly. Can the same magic be applied to ZDMC?
