Is Zidoo does not play Dolby Vision correctly the colors are all off. My guess is that maybe the reason why Dune has that you have to connect to the Internet is maybe so Dolby could see the device and that maybe is why it's playing perfectly but this is just a guess.

Dolby Vision colours are not "off".

If you find that colours are incorrect with Dolby Vision that can mean that the colour primaries are incorrectly defined in the EDID from your display.

Dune boxes do not connect to Dolby however if you Shark it you'll see there is a lot of unnecessary traffic to Dune servers. Again, not something Zidoo does.

When it comes to Dune, I don't know. I have to trust what you were saying here but Dune does play Dolby vision without a problem. Could you show me what you mean on the EDID settings? Could you maybe take a picture because I don't have any of these issues with Nvidia shield or apple tv.

Colour Primaries are defined in the EDID and that dictates how Dolby Vision handles the colour mapping. These primaries are usually either close to BT.2020 or DCI-P3 and they must match the capabilities of the display.

This is an example of an EDID Dolby Block:

    DV Version: 2
    DV DM Version: Reserved
    DV Interface: DV + LLDV 12-bit 422
    YUV422 12bit: Supported
    Global Dimming: Supported
    Backlight Control: Not Supported
    RED Primary: Rx=0.680 Ry=0.305
    GREEN Primary: Gx=0.223 Gy=0.676
    BLUE Primary: Bx=0.152 By=0.055
    MAX/MIN Luminance: 775 / 0 nits

Here the Red, Green and Blue Primaries are a close, but not exact, match to DCI-P3.

So if for example the EDID has Primaries close to BT.2020 and the display (as above) is closer to DCI-P3, the colours will be incorrect.

    BT.2020 X Y
    Red 0.708 0.292
    Green 0.170 0.797
    Blue 0.131 0.046
    White 0.313 0.329

    DCI-P3 X Y
    Red 0.680 0.320
    Green 0.265 0.690
    Blue 0.150 0.060
    White 0.314 0.338

If the colour primaries match, and of course calibration in the display is correct, then Dolby Vision colours from Zidoo (and Dune) are correct.

So will this be different from my TV? I have a LG G4.

Although I've seen LGs with EDID issues (certain firmwares have video modes missing) I don't think they have an issue in the Dolby Block so as long as you're not using an incorrect custom EDID, I'd expect colours on an LG to be fine.

So what exactly is the problem?

The problem is which I've been stating for many times now Zidoo when playing Dolby Vision does not show the colors correctly I have compared with my Nvidia shield and Apple TV. Those two play exactly the same colors when playing the same movie with Dolby Vision. Zidoo does not something is wrong.

Yes, but you'll have to be a little more specific because that's not the case for other people.

Yes, it is the case for the people. If you go back on this thread then you can read other people are having the same problem. I think that the player cannot play the Dolby Vision profile 7 layers as it should. I wish I could maybe record the files or the logs or whatever is needed to maybe to help the developer out, but I don't know how to do that.

A description of what you're seeing would help - you say "colours are off" but it's impossible to know what you mean by that.

No, of course not, the player does not use the enhancement layer - that's always been the case, and that's also the case with the ATV and Shield. The only media players I'm aware of at the moment that are able to use the FEL are certain models that use an AML905X4 and the AML922 using a compatible version of CoreElec.

The Zidoo AML players convert Profile 7 to Profile 8 on the fly - as far as I'm aware, the ATV and Shield don't do that. However that doesn't affect colours and neither does the absence of a Full Enhancement Layer. That would assume the content is mastered correctly of course, but I haven't seen any that haven't been in that respect although there are some badly mastered examples that benefit from the Profile 8 conversion.

Some movies are too bright, and some movies are not bright enough. That is the easiest thing to see the colors are somewhat muted comparing to Apple TV and Nvidia, shield Apple TV and video shield have the exact same colors I have been going back-and-forth. It is impossible to see between those two that tells me that Zidoo is doing something wrong or the Zidoo is reading something wrong. But the bigger issue is the stuttering and cutting off audio.

Plus would need to know all of his settings or it is not comparable.

How do you know the Shield or the ATV are correct? They both use older Dolby libraries, both with faults and in particular the Shield was well known for red shift in Dolby Vision. In fact I've set my Shield (which I only use for Netflix) to output SDR only.

I don't have experience of the ATV as I don't have one.

All I can tell you is that the Zidoo handles Dolby Vision as well, and in a lot of cases, better, than other non FEL devices.

And so many people are complaining about this issue and you're still fighting on. This is just crazy. This will not get the issue resolved. I will record a video again and show you again and when it comes to the settings I have tried every recommendation and the results are exactly the same. This is obviously a software issue like I said before Zidoo should stop putting on more features and get the essentials to work perfectly. Trust me nobody cares about the features if the player cannot play movies and most of the features are not used anyway. If Zidoo would come with absolutely no features but it play moves perfectly and it has its new interface trust me this would be the most popular player ever.

Honestly I don't see any issue in Dolby Vision presentation at all. There are plenty of others - the biggest is the freeze issue obviously, but I see nothing wrong with Dolby Vision per se.
