Not that I'm aware of - if luminance levels fluctuate unexpectedly that could indicate a bad RPU.

I also sometimes noticed some light fluctuation. Last time i saw that was with Warrior Season 3 in Dolby Vision

    ps. what is RPU?

Reference Picture Unit - it's the Dolby Vision metadata in the file - if it's out of sync then, as a simple example, brightness changes can occur mid scene rather than at the beginning of a scene where they should be.

Often happens when people stitch a Dolby RPU from a Profile 5 web presentation into HDR10 disc content where it has no right to be!

  4. Just got a z20pro, it's stuttering and low frames here and there in all file types and codecs.... The old z10 didn't have this issue, updated to latest fw...

Not the issue in question in this thread and please do not double/treble post.

What i've noticed since installing v1.0.86_G on my zidoo 9x pro is that it has weird activity peaks with reads reaching 100% on my hard drives, causing stutter on 4k HDR with FLAC 7.1, DTS 7.1 or TRUEHD.
I don't use a NAS but share the hard drives on my windows 11 pc over wired network.
    ---
I forgot to say that now, to enjoy stutter-free movie viewing i only need to close any other app that has write/read permission on those shared HDDs such as torrent clients, metadata managers and such. I hope this tidbit helps anyaone suffering from stuttering playback after updating to 1.0.86/_G.

A few days ago, my Z9X PRO with v1.0.86 started experiencing choppy playback. It had been working fine since the end of April when the .86 update rolled out.

I was using SMB to connect to a Mac Mini M2 (files from Apple’s 512GB SSD play fine) and via a USB-connected new WD My Passport 5 TB. It had been playing great, but now it’s choppy.

My old Z9X (latest v6.4.65_G) plays everything fine, also via SMB - Mac Mini - WD USB disc.

First, I changed the UTP cable, HDMI cable, deleted everything from Home Theatre, performed a factory reset... etc, but nothing worked.

So, the next step was to flash the player to stable v1.0.52. YES, everything was fine again.
I then updated to the latest beta version v1.0.86, and playback was choppy again.

Next step: flash the player again to stable v1.0.52. ;)
Then, I updated to beta version v1.0.75. YES, everything was fine again.

    Test files:
    mkv, REMUX, Purple Rain (1984) 2160p 4K BluRay DTS-HD MA 5.1 (49 GB, Bit rate 54.9 MB/s)
mkv, REMUX, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan S04E02 Convergence 2160p 4K BluRay DV HEVC TrueHD 7.1 Atmos (16 GB, Bit rate 42.1 MB/s)

Good excuse for me to get a copy of Purple Rain ;)

So does this choppy playback manifest immediately on playing the files detailed above?

yes. few seconds. but its my problem, nothing wrong with the file.
if i copied it to my ssd on mac, no problems with playing.

now back with old 0.75, it plays fine even via usb. :)

    Still happen with 1.0.86
"Occasionally, when starting a video and less often whilst in the middle of playing a video the playback becomes choppy, as if it's being played back at a slow frame rate. Audio is not affected."
Need to do pause and resume to fix the issue.

    So a USB issue only?

I got a copy of Purple Rain - the bitrates match what you said so I assume it's the same source (Audio 1 FLAC, Audio 2 DTS-HD etc).

Plays fine on SMB - I'm just copying to a USB stick to test that.

Yes, when the USB disc is connected to the Mac Mini, some files play “jerky/choppy.” Via the old Z9X, there is no problem; on the previous firmware 0.75, there is also no problem. So now I’m on 0.75, and all is fine.

It could be only my problem, but then again, why is everything fine on the old player and with the previous firmware? :)

Ah ok - so the USB is not directly connected to the player - it's USB>MAC>SMB>Zidoo?

    yes. USB>MAC>SMB>Zidoo

Ok, I don't have a MAC so the closest I can get is a PC, but I just copied the movie to a cheap Sandisk 128GB USB stick (not a drive). Connected it to an old PC running Windows 7 on USB 2.0 (to give it the worst chance possible) and it played fine on 1.0.86.

So you're right, it's not the file, but I can't think of anything that's changed between .75 and .86 that could cause this - presumably it's something to do with the hardware configuration but goodness knows why .75 likes it and .86 doesn't.

Haven't figured this one out. I haven't seen it since (as far as I remember) October last year.

Try changing to the VS10 engine instead of auto HDR worked for me I am currently on the previous firmware but the issue you describe sounds similar to what I had it was mostly happening in the middle of a movie strange it never seem to happen with tv series. I have not experienced the problem since and have played plenty of movies etc without it happening. I will try setting it back but I am waiting for the next firmware seems a lot of issues with current one 1.0.86 all my media is on a NAS.
