However, it is not particularly wise to load such unofficial ALPHA firmware. I did it, but without really thinking about what the consequences might be. It's better to be patient and wait until it is officially available. I haven't noticed any improvements or any differences so far.
Alpha Testing is testing performed to identify bugs before releasing the product to real users or to the public (performed within the organization). Beta Testing is performed by real users of the software application in a real environment.
I bought the Master Edition about 6 weeks ago. Problem recognising SSD (Samsung EVO 970), keeps dropping connection. Managed to rip 4 cds to internal hard drive. When I tried ripping to SSD the unit would not recognise cd player (Rioddas External CD Drive, USB 3.0 Portable CD/Dvd ). Tried another cd player (Hitachi-LG GP60 External DVD Drive) and it was not recognised either, display started to flash on and off. Sent it back to retailer who contacted Eversolo who said they had identified a potential issue, when a certain level power-drain of the SSD and CD ROM (combined) is experienced - this can cause an intermittent response from the interface They think they can fix it with a firmware update. Still waiting for that. I updated the system when I received it 4 weeks ago. Do you think this is possible with a firmware update? Thank you. 1
I experienced the same problem with an ME. Long story short, I returned the ME and went for a standard A6 & Z8 combo (love them!). Still the same ripping problem (using a LG writer with separate power supply & the dual USB fitting recommended by the helpdesk - no improvement). I eventually worked out that I could simply hook-up the writer to my PC and rip directly to a memory stick. Then just insert into the back of the A6 and upload - this workaround was faultless and all the CD artwork loaded as well. No issues with SSD (same Evo 970). FYI: a friend with MSc. Computer Science wondered if the ripping issue may be due to inadequate initial heat dissipation caused by a fast-write drive writing to a fast SSD (the A6 heatsink’s massive, but may not conduct the high writing heat quickly enough). That said, he has 16-fans in his gaming-rig, so ‘heat issues’ will always be his default position. However, if he’s right, I can’t see firmware as the solution unless the Zidoo magicians can somehow slow down the writing. Anyway, I consider this kit such amazing value that a minor workaround is a small price to pay. Other observations: I never used to believe in burn-in, but 24-hours on the A6 made a night-and day difference to the lower-mid/bass frequencies on my system (Roksan Oxygene Amp & Kef R5’s). If you have SQ issues, I’d give it 48-hours before giving up. IMO, the A6ME with onboard DAC had similar SQ to the A6/Z8 combo, but I detect a slightly wider soundstage on the A6/Z8 combo than the ME alone (although I can’t A/B test). Any thoughts anyone - am I imagining it? Native Amazon …. please …. please …. please. On a personal note, I’ve been lurking on this forum for a couple of months and it’s great to see such genuine, constructive advice from all over the world. Having once made the mistake of engaging with ‘pixel-peepers’ on a photography forum (those guys be crazy!), it’s gratifying that the vast majority of contributors do so with a desire to help, rather than show-off and just prove how superior they are. Long may it continue.
Thanks for the reply. I will try the work around that you suggest when I receive my replacement unit. Iam trying another ME unit just incase the first one was faulty, although there is with out doubt a manufacturing problem be it firm ware or otherwise.
Thanks for the information. I could not get cd’s to rip to ssd either. Never thought to try to internal storage. That works perfect. So I will rip to internal storage and then just copy and past to my ssd. I was surprised how fast it rip as well. Much faster than doing it on my Mac computer.
@Don1023 soon a new version should be available. Could you please then try again if the issue is still reproducible again? The upcoming version will get some bug fixes for cd rip. Unfortunately I do not have a SSD build in yet. But if the issue would be reproducible I could send the bug to the team. Thanks
@WalterWalter Just got the info that the new version should help here with your evo 970. the update will be huge
Thanks for the info. Expecting my ME in a couple of weeks. Will then check for FW updates. Would you agree that it is possible to rip to internal memory and then transfer to ssd?
Yeah that’s possible. But what I talked to dev today the ssd should not be a problem anymore. But let’s see the next days after release
Is there more information on this 1.1.85 version? It is not offered yet it seems when I perform a “check version” in the about screen?
aha.. my bad, I thought alpha version meant that it was passed the beta stage and available for use… but perhaps before the beta stage then?
