No, I don't think you missed anything ... but...

I'm a little confused because you say you use "SDR Rec.709" but also say you use VS10...

    ...anyway...

If you use Settings/Display/HDR > SDR Rec 709 then SDR content is played natively but any HDR10(+) content is converted to SDR using the Realtek engine.

Whilst the Realtek engine is quite good at tone mapping HDR to SDR, the colour conversion from Rec.2020 to Rec.709 is terrible - you get all sorts of horrible artifacts in blue (reds and greens are mostly ok).

So if you want Rec.709 output I would definitely recommend using VS10 but because the Sony is an HDR projector you'll need to load an SDR EDID and then you can use "VS10 for all content" and it will output VS10 SDR.

    SDR EDID here:

Thanks, I already use your SDR edid and the VS10 conversion (by SDR rec 709 I meant SDR Edid, sorry).
I use the VS10 conversion for DV and HDR content, I will try it for « all content ».
But yes, I feel like the black looks grey like HDMI range issue…

OK, not for nothing.. but I also use a custom SDR only EDID with my Epson 6050 projector .. .and then I use VS10 to SDR for everything for my HDR output. But at certain times when I have been testing different HDR/VS10/LLDV EDID combos and HDR outputs, that I too have found that it seemed that the HDMI range seemed to be wonky... I would simply toggle the menu selection from Auto to 16-235 or vice versa and things would seem to snap back into proper black levels again. I could never really lock down a repeatable scenario in which I could replicate it... and it didn't happen very often.

And on a related note, at certain times over the last few years (albeit very rare), I found that even though I was using the SDR only custom EDID, that my projector would actually switch to its HDR mode because it was receiving the VS10 to HDR ouput? I would simply toggle the Zidoo HDR output to Auto and then back to VS10 and all would be good again.

If I use auto on the zidoo and on my tv it's a mess ((as other combos too (I've mentioned this to @Markswift2003 before)). Keep all settings to limited range.

And in my sporadic instances, I actually did already have it on set on limited.... and toggling to Auto actually fixed it! Then, the next time I used the Zidoo, I would switch back to limited and it was just fine again.. weird.

    Ok so I'm not alone...
This last days, the "Convert to VS10 all content" switch to "auto" each time I turn on the zidoo
I had never seen that before...

I think I've found the answer for the switch issue in an other thread of the forum.

    Lock resolution: main interface--->display--->resolution--->lock resolution

My zidoo didn't switch his VS10 and HDR settings since I lock resolution.

Well, a couple of things.. are you using a custom EDID? And if not, it is super important that your power on sequence is correct.. display first, then receiver/prepro(if you are using one) and lastly the Zidoo...

    I use the SDR EDID.
The "Lock resolution" have solved the problem.
The "convert to VS10 all content" and the "16-235" haven't moved since I've locked the resolution.

Hi Guys, On My Z1000 Pro I cant find the way to set PCM Multichannel for audio, I can only select LPCM 2 channel, Raw or Auto. Am I missing anything?
    Thank you in Advance

if you are using HDMI to an AVR or soundbar able to cope with all codecs, the RAW is fine. It passes unchanged bitstream audio.
Auto may also do the same, depending on your other hardware set-up.

I did the update over the weekend and I'm now encountering an odd issue that only occurs on the Zidoo. When watching content or browsing my poster wall withing 6-10 minutes it puts the Projector in sleep mode. I just have to tap the remote on the Projector for the picture to come back up. As stated this only occurs on the Zidoo all other sources have no issue. I checked the usual spots like sleep timer, wallpaper etc. Anybody have any ideas?

    Hi All

I have had a Z9X for several years, and currently use an SDR EDID, as recommended by @Markswift2003 , and use VS10 for all content. This gives an excellent image on my 2017 JVC projector. However, I am now considering MadVR Envy Core when one becomes available here in Australia. The question I have is what setting do I now use to allow the Envy to do all the HDR heavy lifting? Do I set HDR to Auto and disengage the VS10 engine?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Essentially yes, you want to squirt everything out natively so Auto would be a good start - depends what you want to do with Dolby Vision - whether you want to use the HDR10 base layer alone or whether you want to send native DV as LLDV to the Envy and tell it it's HDR10.

But yes, I'd suggest Auto to start with.

Thanks for the prompt reply. When I eventually get the envy I'll play around with it.

Can you share a rec 2020 sdr edid?

There's no point - SDR 2020 isn't controlled by EDID - the source must support that specific mode so a standard HDR EDID is what you need.

  18. I'm upgrading from a LG CX to an LG G4, are all the Z9X settings the same or is there anything i ought to change?

hi there, i hve use the recommended settings from here,
i have buy a benq w5700, it has hdr capabilities but not has dv.
i use vs10 engine for dv only, watch 1080p or 4k bluray movies.
i think i can turn hdr off on my projector, when i turn off hdr on my pj, i think the hdr tone mapping is done by my pj, right? the image seem to darker than the hdr one and the shadow details are mostly gone.
if i watch dv movies, the movies converted by vs10 to hdr, in the movies menu its written as this.
so, is my setup correct or do you have any advice?
    thanks.
