Just got the UHD8000. In the HDMI Main output menu, what does the Decode > Auto option mean? Does it decode to multichannel LPCM? There's a 2ch LPCM, but I'm looking for multichannel LPCM since I don't have a receiver.

"Auto" means audio output is according to the EDID
"RAW" means that bitstream is forced regardless of EDID

These boxes do not decode to multichannel LPCM because they aren't licenced to do so, only stereo LPCM.

Mark one question. Did anyone test difference between HDMI audio-video and audio only for audio quality? Are there any differences as audio only has hardware improvements. So has anyone test it in a sense of numbers? As I do not want to change cables all the time (if I use only audio-video it goes to Anthem directly, but with audio only, video goes directly to JVC NZ800). Btw Mark we have almost the same config:)

Simple answer - it's a bitstream that spits out and it's the same set of 1's and 0's in either case. No difference whatsever.

    Great PJ isn't it!

PJ is just the best, I cannot get over how great picture is and how HDR looks. Thanks for the answer:)

Hi, does anybody know what TV LED and LLDV means on the HDR/Dolby Vision output mode settings.

One more question that I have is if my TV on my player can play Priority YUV444 12BIT Should I use that instead of 10 bits.

There's no point, content is max 10-bits.

Isn't it better to have some headroom?

No - all it does is add two leading zeroes to a word and increases HDMI bandwidth.

    @Markswift2003
Hi Mark, Could you please help me optimize the settings for my JVC NX7 and Z3000 setup? My chain is:

    Z3000 (Main HDMI) -> Anthem AVM70 -> JVC NX7

    Here are my current settings:

    4K @ 24: 4:4:4, 10-bit
    4K @ 60: 4:4:4, 8-bit
    Below 4K: 4:4:4, 10-bit
Frame rate: Match frame rate only

I’ve been experimenting with VS10 output for both HDR and SDR but can’t decide what works best. Some movies look better with VS10 enabled, while others don’t.
The majority of my content is Blu-ray 1080p ISO rips, with a smaller collection of 4K UHD ISO rips. My main challenge is deciding whether to rely on VS10 for any content or to let the Amlogic chip handle everything natively. What would you recommend for the best performance with the JVC NX7?

    Thank you!

    4K50~60 should certainly be 4:2:0 10-bit not 4:4:4 8-bit.

I tend towards using 12-bit 4:2:2 for 4K23~30 and Below 4K now, so I have mine set as below:

    4K50~60: 4:2:0 10-bit
    4K23~30: 4:2:2 12-bit
    Below 4K: 4:2:0 12-bit

As for best performance, unfortunately that's up to you to decide and as you've seen, it's not easy. If you don't mind HDMI resync time which I think is probably about the same as my PJ on the NX7, about 5 seconds, then set HDR to Auto to present everything natively.

Personally I don't like any form of HDMI sync so I reduce it wherever possible so I use a custom EDID and output everything in LLDV.

But 99% of my content is either 4K HDR10 or 4K Dolby Vision. Since yours is mostly 1080p SDR then I'd stick to Auto - most of your content won't trigger a resync as long as the Zidoo UI is SDR at 23.976fps.

    So in summary:

Playback/Automatic frame rate/Frame rate mode: Match frame rate only

    Display/Resolution: 3840x2160p 23Hz

    Display/Color Settings/4K 50~60Hz: Priority YUV420 10BIT
    Display/Color Settings/4K 23~30Hz: Priority YUV422 12BIT
    Display/Color Settings/Non-4K: Priority YUV422 12BIT

    Display/HDR: Auto

    Hi-
A couple of random questions regarding the Aspect Ratio setting.
I've noticed that the default setting, at least on my UHD8000, is set to "Fit."
Is that the correct optimal setting?
    What about "Original?"
And what is the "Fit (DAR)" setting?

    I'm using a LG OLED 77" display.

    Thanks!

    Hi @Markswift2003,
Thank you for your detailed response! I came across your document (Using Zidoo Boxes for LLDV on JVC Projectors https://www.avsforum.com/attachments/using-zidoo-boxes-for-lldv-on-jvc-projectors-pdf.3316716/) and noticed that it mentions the need for a custom gamma file in the JVC.
Since you’re currently using an HD Fury Vertex2, would you recommend it over the Zidoo for LLDV? Additionally, does the HD Fury setup also require a custom gamma file in the JVC?

    Thank you!

Please tell me, does this only apply to projectors or will these settings also be optimal for LCD TV (IPS)?

The custom gamma is only for older JVCs. It's not needed these days.

You probably need to do some research to understand what HDFury devices do.

Theoretically it shouldn't matter - video is encoded as 4:2:0 and there is no interpolation going to 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 from these boxes, but some displays seem to handle 4:2:2 better.

So try it - but if there are differences you'd likely only see it on test patterns.
