I don't know but it's most likely because of the newer cmv4.0 engine vs older cmv2.9.
I'm also seeing a brightness difference between my Sony x800m2/x700 and LG C2 internal player. Colors are also more saturated using my C2 internal player.

If that is the case, why didn't the Zidoo include a CMv4.0 engine? It seems like even old TVs from 2019 have this?

No idea, cmv4.0 is quite old (2019) actually.

Only the Firetv 4K max, Shield and AppleTV are cmv4.0 HDMI devices.

I asked this yesterday... especially since they JUST came out with the Z9X Pro... could've easily put in the CMv4.0 engine in it but chose not to. Odd decision indeed.

The shield is weird. It has issues with dolby vision profile 7. It adds like a reddish/green tint. It was painfully obvious when I switched to the Zidoo. yet it still has CMv.4.0.....odd

Yea I honestly do not understand why they would use an outdated engine? It makes no sense.....

right. if you watch the lldv HDMI capture link i posted, the red push is VERY obvious.

The shield problem is not really with the colors actually. There is some specific condition that trigger some chroma artifacts (red spot) especially noticeable with bright white background.

When you look at RGB separately, each colors are pretty much the same as the other devices.

Is Sony x800m2/x700 doing real TV-LED DV? If so I figure I can't blame Zidoo doing fake TV-LED for making the difference between LG internal player and Zidoo. Also I think Oppo doesn't have a cmv4.0 engine right? So there's still something there and that's why I need B0RN to test because he is the only person here who has three devices(C9,Oppo,Zidoo) that can set up mix of combinations of all those DV stuff we are talking about.

Edit: I think if any two of those three devices are showing similar image when playing a Mel DV movie under the same picture mode it may prove something. Even if all three are doing different it can still mean something.

Yes, the x700/x800m2 do true TV-LED but strangely, the L1 response is different compared to the C2 internal player.
For example, with this test file, the x800m2 has no reaction at all with L1 max_pq while the C2 internal app(and nvidia shield) reacts to all the values over 500nits.

Ah really? I assumed it did use V4.0 If not, then yea, maybe that doesn't actually explain what's going on ?

Will this explain the difference you noticed when you said "Colors are also more saturated using my C2 internal player."

    it could be.

Also, there's a bug with TV-LED on all the devices. Any positive lift(value over 2048) with L2 ''trim offset'' has no effect on the x800m2/x700/shield and most likely the oppo too.
This is actually a bigger problem than the lldv chroma weight bug because L2 trim offset is used more often in movies. Movie Example and You can use this file to test it.
Strangely, if you force LLDV on all the devices I tested, then it works properly so I assume it's also working properly on the Zidoo so that would cause a difference when the movie use that trim metadata.

No issues for the trim offset on the C2/C8 internal player.

So as you can see, there are many things that work differently that could explain the difference we are seeing.
DV has many issues, no wonder why experts like Stacey Spears prefer HDR10...

Thanks for the explanation. I was hoping that after all these years there must be a standard or something in the DV world against which devices can be verified so there can be a reference device out there already. But still, I personally won't go back to HDR10, after what I saw with my c9 there's no turning back.

    Amen to that.

That's why I had the DV info removed from my EDID and use the VS10 engine to output DV as HDR10.

I am still getting accumulated to the correct Cinema mode of DV on my C9 so it'll be a while before I can make meaningful observations. I need to get adjusted to and familiar with content in that picture mode first and then compare the 3 devices.

I will say, I have not been able to get the No Time To Die copy to work on C9 no matter what I do. It always ends up playing in HDR10 on C9.

I'm about to give up on Dolby Vision completely after this.....why is it so hard for players to get this right? Is this Dolby's fault for over-complicating the living **** out of their format? Like seriously. What is actually the problem here? Why can't anyone seem to get this right?

Yea I'm very interested to see if you notice as drastic of a difference between the C9 internal app and the Zidoo when using Cinema mode. (although I think you already said there was still a large difference).

I think Sony was the first to botch the DV implementation in a major way. And then Dolby convoluted things. But Shield can't fix the red push and apple tv can't do losseless audio on local media just like C9 so they all have their shortcomings.
Still, Zidoo had the perfect opportunity to upgrade the Z9X Pro to use CMv4.0 engine but chose not to... so whos to blame really?

That is a good point. Why in the actual heck is Zidoo still using an outdated DV engine? So really everyone seems to be at fault here.

@Markswift2003 , do you happen to know why Zidoo is sticking with the oudated CM engine? Do they plan to upgrade to v.4.0 with their next gen releases? I think we're all very confused at why Zidoo chose to use the old version when even the old nvidia shield uses the new one?
