For DV, yes. It does. Why wouldn't it be? It's a great solution for DV. Only drawback is it can't do L2 positive lift over 2048, but neither can any of the HDMI boxes. If you want that, you have to use your LG internal video player or something.
Apologies I thought you were being sarcastic or something, ha. Yea, it's a great solution. I recommend it for DV. For HDR10/SDR I still use the Zidoo because I really like Home Theater 4.0. I'm not a big fan of Kodi.
It's ok,no problem. For me personally, on my set up, DV sucks big time, so I'm happy to stick with the Zidoo (using ZDMC purley as the UI) and output DV as HDR10.
CMv4 is not used, nor is it ever likely to be used, in UHD BluRay. It's generally used in post for TX or streaming deliverables whereas for UHD BluRay, the important people have already left the building months before any fannying around with domestic Dolby Vision occurs. Some people think it's a good idea to mux in a CMv4 RPU from a streaming source onto a CMv2.9 UHD BluRay. I don't. But it's a hobby, I get that, so each to his own. CMv4 is of course technically better but you need some perspective on how and where it's used and needed at what point in the post production process. As for "fake" TV Led DV - that's a moniker that's been coined elsewhere, and it has to be said, somewhat carelessly. VS10 is of course a black box and it so happens that when there is no BL+EL finangling required, Composer in the player is used rather than the display. Dolby's choice. So what? The spec dictates that both source and display must contain Dolby Composer, so who cares where it's applied. The heavy lifting in TV Led in is layer recombination, and of course that's not needed here, so as long as there's no Composer duplication (there isn't), it really doesn't matter where the metadata is processed.
Idk how familiar you are with DV metadata levels (they definitely confuse me) - When you output DV as HDR10, does it read the L1 metadata and use that for the static tonemapping?
To be honest, I was more interested in the ability to play FEL rather than the CM4.0. As for the "true tv-led" vs. "fake tv-led", I just don't understand the differences enough to have an opinion on that one unfortunately.
Yes - that's absolutely a fair comment, and that's where these players fall down. But it is what it is.
No, Mark was kind enough to strip out the DV block from my edid, so it just uses the HDR base layer (as far as I know).
Thanks for the recommendation.set it all up. Works like a charm tested working 100% with FEL. And all my audio dropout issues I have from the Zidoo are gone.
