Unless you need onboard storage, for movie playback there's no advantage to buying anything more than the Z9X 8K as they all use the same SOC. You have to be a bit careful with Dune as the cheaper model uses the S905 rather than the S928, but the same applies there.

@Markswift2003 I know that it's not your fault, but can you clarify if zidoo considers the Z9X Pro as an end of support product?

Not as far as I know.

The 1619BPD series was a bit of an odd one - as far as I can see, they were released as a stop gap while the AML boxes were in development - and also a kind of swansong for Realtek STBs.

I can fully understand why people are naffed off by what's happened, but this business is fast moving and products develop at an amazing rate and it's always been the same in the media player industry.

Thanks for the insight, nothing better than getting info from someone that has both products for an unbiased opinion.

I'm already planning on building my NAS for the next media player to connect to so no onboard storage necessary.

As for the Zidoo Z9X 8K. My only possible snag (if even that) is that 6GB of RAM, compared to their more expensive counterparts of 8GB of RAM. You ever noticed a lag of performance in comparison to the higher models, with RAM being the issue for the Z9X? Also, assuming that RAM is not upgradable either.

The ram isnt a big deal, when used as a dedicated media player, the OS is usually a few hundred megs, maybe 1gig, the player and library app might use a gig or two for poster caches when in use and you arent multitasking so it's one app at a time, and the media player itself only caches a few hundred megs of the file at a time anyway.

Ram isn't a problem unless you are running games or data crunching apps that these boxes are never used for.

    Exactly what @Faceman2k24 said above.

    I have a Z9X 8K and a UHD8000 and there's no difference in performance at all.

What version of firmware do you use on the UHD5000? Mine is 1.0.75 and reluctant to move up.

Oops sorry - that was a typo - I have an 8000... But I have a Z9X Pro that's running 1.0.95 perfectly well with no issues.

Hey guys, does this firmware works without any issue on z2000 pro? my last installed version is 1.0.75. Is it save to update to 1.0.95? thank you

Some here say they have issues with 1.0.95 and some don't. The only way to know for sure in your situation is to install and try it out. If 95 does not workout for you then be prepared ahead of time to move back to 75. You will need to flash your device, the process for my UHD5000 here.

Hey I have a z2000 pro and run 1.0.95. It is definitely not perfect, but it is better for me than 1.0.75 was. There is still the occasional issue where the movie gets slow and choppy during playback which is usually resolved by pause/play or stop/play. It is intermittent, but relatively infrequent occurrences.

I just don't have any of these issues on my old X9S. Its only real issue is a dropout of audio momentarily once or twice out of maybe one out of three movies. Movies stream fine over Wi-Fi (well the Z9X Pro did too until I updated from 1.0.64 it came with to 1.0.95 which screwed the device to hell as far as I can tell. Now even hard drive movies can get an audio stutter. Auro-3D from FLAC stopped working for RedTails that works fine on the X9S and any improvements on their audio player are flaky (Auro-3D FLAC music doesn't work, which means the PCM output isn't clean and SACD ISO playback in multichannel doesn't work at all (KODI plugin works perfectly by comparison).

I guess I'll have to attempt to go back to older firmware if I want to salvage a brand new purchase from October. I didn't get the new 8K one because it has no 3D support and I have almost 300 3D titles here.

In the mean time, I went back to my X9S. It works fine other than that audio tick once in awhile. It doesn't support Auro-3D FLAC music in tbe music player, but then it never did (movies work however).

So, after testing for a while, the problem still persists. Movies with a TrueHD/Dolby Atmos audio track eventually start stuttering during playback.
This issue can be temporarily resolved by pausing and resuming, but it’s very frustrating—especially when watching a movie with others (and it doesn’t always line up with a bathroom break).

I am currently using version 1.0.75, and the latest version (1.0.95) made things even worse. Is there any version in between that handles this issue better?

Will this problem ever be resolved?

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a different player than the Z9X Pro that reliably supports UHD, Dolby Atmos, and 3D playback without these kinds of issues?

Have a UHD5000 on 1.0.75 and I don't remember movies with a TrueHD/Dolby Atmos audio stuttering during playback.

Checked file transfer speed between the 5000 and office PC and it was about 108 MBps (864 Mbps). That is close to the 112 MBps I get between the PC and Zappiti NAS. The 5000 has a 1TB Samsung SSD in it.

There was an issue where some videos stuttered with TrueHD and TrueHD Atmos soundtracks, but this was solved in v1.0.70.

I'm not aware of, nor am able to replicate this issue on current firmware.

I have my video files stored on a NAS (connected via NFS), and according to the network overview, the NAS is connected to the Zidoo Z9X Pro via a 1 Gbit/s LAN cable. I do not have any hard drive connected directly to the Zidoo.
    Speedtest (Zidoo/Nas via Chrome) DL 992 Mbit/s ; UL 999 Mbit/s

What options are available to measure the actual data transfer rate from the NAS to the Zidoo under Home Theater?
