Due to the type of support with my Zidoo Z9X, Zidoo never solved the wonky scraping part, and the pro model should have been a S928X model. As i can see now, this pro model is 18 months old, and already basically replaced with the 928 model, supportwise.
    So i got myself a DUNE 8k

Different (OS) ballgame. And that is the main player now, no more scraping issues anymore.

I was thinking about getting a Dune player! So you do prefer the Dune?

    I have both players here - in the current ranges I have a Zidoo Z9X 8K and UHD8000, a Dune 8K Pro and a Dune 4K Pro.

The Dune is definitely an accomplished player and definitely still has the edge as far as UHD BD Menus go, but the gap has closed somewhat.

As for scraping - in my tests (with test libraries of 200, 500, 1000, 1500 and 4000 movies), since HT5 was released I found the Zidoo faster and more accurate as long as naming is sensible.

Alongside that, off the top of my head, the Dunes:

    1. Don't have Custom EDID
    2. Don't do CMv4.0 in Player Led Dolby Vision
    3. Don't handle RPU trims correctly in Player Led Dolby Vision
    4. Don't allow full control over VS10 functions
    5. Don't allow full control over sharpening (coming to Zidoo next firmware)
    6. Have a primitive posterwall and UI
    7. Don't have a 4K UI
    8. Don't have native Plex/Jellyfin/Emby support
    9. Don't have a Music Player
    10. Don't have a forum

Of course, not all of this matters to everyone, and many prefer the Dunes, but I think in a lot of cases that's more down to rhetoric than anything else.

But I've always said, we need Dune and we need R_Zappitilution because we need competition to keep these boxes developing, so by all means give Dune a try, but do it with open eyes, with advice from those with experience and knowledge.

I'm also genuinely a bit worried (not a lot - just a bit) because Dune haven't released any public firmware since June this year.

When the stable firmware release ? I have a uhd 5000 with the update .95. He have many stuttering with small mkv file or is not smooth. I need pause and play to resolve this. Is not possible for me to return to stock firmware because the smb server is broken…. So, when zidoo respect the consumer because I pay 1100€ for nothing.
    Thanks you for reading me

    @Markswift2003.
When will Zidoo add Tidal Connect to Z9x Pro? It's present at Z9X 8K, so why not at Z9x Pro?
Also it would be nice that Zidoo would add an app to fix missing icons/shortcuts to some apps installed from Google Play Store.
Also when Zidoo will fix that standard Tidal app is always using stereo as it never detects audio AVR capabilities in HDMI chain (maybe please switch to Tidal connect).
And the last thing - why Zidoo is NOT helping to root Z9X Pro like was helping with older units? Z9x Pro is not streaming certified player, so what is the problem?
Maybe also it would be nice that Z9x Pro will lock the refresh rate also for movies played via on-line stream apps... like Prime Video, etc... to avoid stuttering at every single fps as are set at settings.

By not even a milestone, but beyond that.
The DUNE OS is something different, for example you can roll back from any alfa/beta FW you want.
It scrapes & ident quick, 99.9 % hitrate. Fast SMB speed, basically everything i need.

I don't know of any plans for the Z9X Pro to support Tidal.

The Zidoo is primarily a local media player and not designed to run third party apps and not designed to be rooted. If you need that then I'd suggest a Kodi box.

That's true, you don't need flash to roll back, same with r volution players.

@Markswift2003 .. is zidoos new range of these 8k players able to play my DV remuxes without the dreaded flickering caused by the FEL/RPU whatever it is? I recently bought the 4k bluray of Ghost and the entire movie flickered like Saving Private Ryan on the z9x pro which bothers me as I otherwise love the box. Im seeing that this gets handled by the new Dune boxes, so how about these zidoo boxes? Any insight appreciated!

    Yes, absolutely.

This is caused by polynomial remapping of the enhancement layer, which if the enhancement layer is encoded badly causes an inverted version of those errors in the base layer if the enhancement layer is missing. And there are a couple of other adjustments in the RPU header etc.

Essentially we need to handle the RPU as if it was Profile 8 and that's what the new players do.

So yes - no more pulsing in these files.

Your assistance is always so prompt and appreciated. Im glad to hear this. Very general last question because Ive seen you are an owner of both the new range of Zidoo and Dune: whats your snap recommendation for me of the two? Im used to zidoo and really enjoy the media wall, but im purchasing this weekend and just want to be certain I get an expert take since I see you contribute to the discussion on this and dune forums. Thanks again you're the man!

Sounds great! Thinking about getting the new Dune HD Pro 8K Plus, but it's not released in Europe yet.. Wonder when it does release.

Personally it's no contest - Zidoo every time.

The Dune has an old fashioned skeuomorphic UI and horrible posterwall. Technically the Dune isn't bad, but their DolbyVision and HDR handling is not as complete or accurate as Zidoo and they are missing several features that anyone who's used a Zidoo in the past would miss. They're only advantage is BD Menu, but that gap has closed considerably in these new models.

Also I'm not sure what's going on with Dune at the moment - they haven't released a public firmware update since June and have been very quiet on the development front - being a Russian company they've presumably had a rocky time of recent years.

Depends on the model - but I have a Z9X Pro and a UHD8000 and both perform exactly the same.

Memory has never been an issue in any of these boxes over the years so I wouldn't factor it into a decision at all - it makes no difference whatsoever.

So looks lie Z9X Pro was always a child of a lesser god?! Same series but more higher units have Tidal Connect using the same CPU RTD1619BPD and sharing the same core firmware... So why not enable it also for Z9X Pro?
The cheapest latest series Z9X 8k has it...
Why Z9x Pro have to be always the worst one!?

I didn't say it wasn't coming, I said I don't know of any plans for it.

Flippin 'A' Mark. Whenever I'm close to the buy button on the Dune you keep saying things to make me think otherwise and go with Zidoo again
And if you're saying there's no firmware since June for their 8k models(?), that's defintely a red flag for me. Especially if they're not keeping their customers in the loop.

Jeeez is the tide going to swing the other way for me yet again and I end up with another Zidoo.

Which kind of goes back to what I was saying before. If I'm going to continously end up splashing money on these devices, I'm going to stick to buying the cheapest model in their range to mitigate my losses. Instead of buying the super duper $1000+ box with special sauce, which will be long forgotten about next year when another model comes out.
