No, that's fine - it only becomes a problem with Wireshark if the devices you want to monitor are on separate switches but in your case one of them is the PC on which Wireshark is running so that shouldn't matter either.

Still odd - Auto should be right and at the very least, be the same as one of the manual options!

I use the latest version v6.4.62 and haven't had any issues for a long time.

Could a faulty HDMI cause my issues maybe? I'm just trying to think of anything at this point.

No, I don't think so - all this stuff is controlled by software and not hardware which makes it all the more confusing.

Before I even loaded a custom EDID, I turned on the feature to be able to load one. As soon as I switched the feature on, and didn't even have a custom one loaded,I noticed the picture get brighter. Is that normal?

    No, not at all.

I must have a bad unit then. I guess I'll just leave it on Auto and keep my external hard drive connected directly to the Zidoo. Thank you so much for trying to help me out with those issues.

You're very welcome - I'm just annoyed I haven't been able to figure this one out and help more.

I don't really think it's the unit because neither of these issues can really be restricted by hardware in the way they are - Well, I guess the HDMI issue could be if the HDMI card went a bit mad but I'd expect other symptoms.

The fact that 16-235 worked fine last week and the screen getting brighter just by enabling the EDID setting, is very odd.

Assuming that was after a reflash so no EDID was pre-selected when you switched it on, yes, that's really odd.

If there was already an EDID selected, but greyed out, then a change in image could be expected depending on the EDID and current HDR mode.

No EDID preselected. I was turning it on so I could upload the EDID and the screen got brighter. Another weird thing was when I had 8 bit selected for color and I played a video, I hit the info button and the output says 10 bit. Shouldn't it say 8 bit if I have 8 bit selected in the settings? Do I trust the info panel as to what's being played or do I trust the setting?

Good question - those settings are not set in stone, it depends on what the EDID says as to what can actually be output.

On the face of it you're absolutely right, if 8-bit is selected, since it's a lower value, it should allow it, but there are values you can choose for which there isn't a legal HDMI mode, so if you chose one of those, it can't output that way.

For example, 8-bit 4:2:2. I tried to get the invalid modes removed years ago but kind of gave up asking.

    You trust the info panel.

Okay, thanks. I think I got somewhere with one more try at a factory reset. I set everything up again and loaded the custom 709 SDR EDID. I put the color range to 16-235 and the image still looked off. I went to the Epson settings and selected Limited instead of Auto and the picture looks correct. I tried Full and the image looks off. So Auto and Full look the same and Limited looks right. Before that last factory reset Auto, Limited, and Full all looked the same as I reported to you in an earlier post.

I just switched it once. Has it been changing with every post?

Since we've been talking I think it's changed 4 times!

Man City made me smile - about 30 miles from here :)

Yeah, I only changed it once. I've been a City fan for about 11 years. My son got me watching them because he would go to a Man City bar in Philadelphia and he became a fan. My first season watching was the year Aguero scored the game winning goal against QPR to win the title. I still get chills to this day when thinking about that goal. We watched the Champion's League victory together and both cried like babies when they won. BTW, Haaland is not human.

Okay, here's a question and I hope it's not a dumb one? I have a Sony 4k TV and just played a 4k video to compare to my projector and Zidoo. Should it look different on the Zidoo since I am tone mapping to SDR, or should the colors be just as deep as what I'm seeing on the Sony TV? Maybe the washed out look I think I'm seeing is just because my eyes are so used to watching HDR content and the SDR seems off to me?
