EDID thread (RTD1619BPD players)

Convention is to represent the bit depth per channel, so 8-Bit means an 8-Bit word for each of the Red, Green and Blue Channels.

Some manufacturers refer to this as the overall bit depth (somewhat incorrectly) so 8-Bit per channel = 24-Bit overall and 10-Bit = 30-Bit (per channel bit depth multiplied by 3)

So in your above numbers that's just 8-bit 4:4:4 before and 10-bit 4:4:4 afterwards.

 

I have a sony 80l oled tv
Many uhd menus do not appear unless i choose the samsung custom edid but then i loose dolby vision.
Is there a way to have an edid like samsung but with dv?

What happens if you set the Zidoo to output VS10 Engine (Output HDR)?

 

Hi,
yes i mean bd menu in 4k uhd movies.Mainly those with dolby vision.(basic instinct,angel heart,conan the destroyer and also those from paramount pictures(transformers,star trek etc)
if i have the samsung edid and i choose VS10 Engine (Output HDR) the screen goes blank and i have to restart zidoo which goes back to auto.

 

Ok i tried it again and got the vs10(hdr) on but the dolby vision movies are played only in hdr (i press the info key on my tv)

 

Well, yes, they will only play in HDR, that's what that option does.

So do they all work with VS10 Engine (Output HDR)?

 

No, with vs10(hdr) and samsung edid the bd menus do not work....

 

I think this is more likely a problem with BD Menus rather than EDID.

BD Menu playback on these players is probably best described as haphazard.

The only way I can think EDID could affect BD Menu is if the menu presents in 60 fps DV (most don't) and the HDMI chain can't cope (4K60 DV needs full bandwidth) but the fact that HDR does the same negates this idea because 4K60 10-bit 4:2:0 needs only 371MHz (unless you specifically change the colour subsampling to 4:2:2 or 4:4:4/RGB).

 

i see....so i guess no solution with a custom edid exists......
HDR by the way does not do the same in Samsung edid (which does not support dv)-and the menus play smoothly with it-,so i think dv in menus is the problem......

 

Just out of curiosity, try these...

I don't have a copy of the Samsung EDID in the Zidoo but attached is another Samsung EDID.

Try this (without DV) and see if you get the same results.

Then try the second EDID - this is exactly the same but has DV added.

With the s90C : bd menus work fine,
with the s90c with dv : bd menus do not work

 

Ok, to start to narrow this down, can you post your EDID here, I'll remove DV and see if that works. I know it's not the solution, but it removes any other variables.

I understand correctly - if I turn on the VS10 Engine (HDR output) on a Samsung S90C TV instead of automatic selection, then only HDR will play, and this mode is not suitable for HDR+ (it will not show up in the TV menu?).
This is the only mode on Samsung that I can’t decide on: auto or VS10 Engine (HDR output)

 

All menus?

I could do replicating this but I don't have many full BD Menus - I only use MKV but I have a few full images for testing.

Are there any on this list you have that show this problem:

Yes, all content is converted by VS10 engine into HDR10.

HDR10+ is treated the same way as HDR10 so no HDR10+ passthrough.

To be honest, I wouldn't worry about HDR10+. Makes bugger all difference.

The menu play fine with your samsung edid and not at all with zidoo default edid
