There were quite a lot of changes to how VS10 works after 29, particularly beneficial to those with non Dolby Vision displays.

 

Would love a breakdown of how things change for us using LLDV with JVC projectors..

 

Well, here's the thing - Having used LLDV for a couple of years now, I'm now testing an SDR EDID and feeding the projector VS10 SDR.

After all, a projector can only ever be an SDR device - so whatever does the tone mapping, it's mapping right down to the bottom end of SDR. In any projector.

And VS10 does a great job of it. If you use Dolby Vision content, the RPU is now used for VS10 HDR and VS10 SDR for all profiles so essentially the signal is very very similar, if not identical to LLDV. Except you don't get the black clip.

Quick hint - if you want to try this, restart the box after selecting VS10 for all content with an SDR EDID - something in VS10 needs resetting to get the colours right and a restart does this.

To be fair, it looks awesome so far...

zdmc 19.4 still doesn't work with this version, it crashes when launching a movie

 

Yes, that is right. Now the HDR with engine works just fine!
But, AFR again began to work sometimes not the first time. This happens on some movies, mostly MKV DV 8 profile.

 

Dolby Vision 8 profile through VS10 dark.
5 DV profile is normal.
