Depends on the ambient temperater of the room, what it's sitting on top of and how much airspace is above it.

If the room is say 20-25 degrees and it's standalone, then excessive heat isn't normal.

What's surprising me the most is, its winter in here its cold outside and inside yet the device is heating up like it needs a processor fan or something.
I have been noticing this behavior since I bought it but thought its normal like a computer processor heats up but recently it became really a thing when my brother noticed the excess heat and it was shocked him when he touched it.
I even tried changing the power adaptor but no benefit.

If this is the case in winter then I'm wondering what will happen in summer.

What box do you have? Z9X Pro? If yes and if you do not put anything below and on top of the unit and it is still hot then I would RMA it. It's NOT normal.

P.S. Please note - HDDs can get quite hot so make sure it is not HDD related.

No, HDD is about feet away from the device, also nothing is at the top or bottom. Why one would be covering this device especially when its quite heating?
I don't know Zidoo's RMA policy in India but I think its going to be a real big struggle.

How are you accessing the media files? Via SATA, USB or via network? If by SATA or USB maybe there is too much power drained to SATA or to USB... so that is why it overheats?

Ambient temperature in the room is about 21 degrees. After playing a 4K file for half an hour, the top of the case is 26 degrees. It's sitting on an HDFury Vertex which is at 29 degrees.

It would be interesting to know the actual temperature is of your box. Certainly excessive heat is bad for processors and can lead to unexpected results.

@KJC - you can by some cheap laser pyrometer to measure the temperature - they come at 16 bucks... or even less depending on at which country you live.

Accessing the media files via USB3.0 and 2.0 port...connecting one or two drives at a time may lead overheating?

    Will definitely try this.

Is overheat causing the abrupt stop of movie on the Home screen? I have noticed this several times, while movie is being played after certain time it will automatically comes on Home screen or blank screen some times.

If its a faulty device then is there anything I can do to replace it?

It's certainly possible but that sounds more like a disc access problem.

The USB ports on the Zidoo are fine for powering USB sticks but if you connect standard hard drives then you should always use external USB power.

Definitely the overheating is created by external disc access. I've noticed it since I installed a USB hub connecting several external HDD and SATA. If you plug an USB HDD, use its power unit to minimize it.

    Hello all,

I have a zidoo z20 pro and with this update all the bugs that I had previously seems to be solved. I love especially that now all the content is recognized on auto hdr mode, in the correct way. Now also files with double layer DV and hdr or/hdr+ are played natively (I have a samsung qn950a tv). Now I have also inserted a 4tb hdd inside zidoo to store mkv and blueray rips. The only problem is that I was surprised to see that openwrt is not included (to use torrents) as in the previous versions of zidoo. Maybe someone here founds any other solution to be able to download torrents directly from zidoo? I have tried many apps but they do not have permissions access to write on hdd. From what I understand you can do it only if you perform a root on the device, but honestly I do not want to do that. Thank you all in advance.

@Markswift2003 any plans on fixing the DV TV-LED output on the Zidoos? I can easily notice the Zidoo DV output being dimmer than either disk or internal TV player and there is a slight color shift to red. I got the same settings on all inputs, TV is also calibrated, so I'm 99% this is a Zidoo issue.

i have 2 usb hdds permanemtly connected to my Z9X pro ...i did take them off top of it when i first noticed the heat ..that and raising it an inch on legs and no more heat issues
Also have you tried installing any apps....maybe one doesnt work on the andorid tv os we are using now ie for me it is USB audio player pro
A "wonky"app might be causing issues leading to thermal overloading

gladly we have other things to do then help impatient people.

Just wait 22 months and it is solved.

very funny. from which planet are you. impatient haha. for me it was not obvious that I buy a media streamer and then have to sign up in a oldskool forum and become part of an product development team.

I've reported 40 bugs ideas and feature requests, most of them I would just expect out of the box from such a device. there's still no tracking, summary, confirmation of anything and commitment until what will be solved and what maybe never. not even a 'it's here we have these ones on our list, these I don't understand pls elaborate, these are out of scope, these are impossible..

I've read at least 200 pages here. if I want to know the status about something let's say subs in the screensaver I've reported 4 or something like that times, I read again 10 pages at least but I will still not be sure about any commitment and timeline.

if I would run my projects like this company is selling tech I would be very fast out of the business.

you tell me I'm impatient because I'm not searching new or correct titles to post in different 2 forums now. something we did not do the last 2 months. that's really a joke.

zidoo should say thank you for your time and reporting of your findings every time someone is writing here!! something I did not see here once

@Markswift2003 is the ASS subs also a known "why do you need it" type of issue like the subs download function for which the 'fix' was 'don't use it'? I ripped some of my Blu-ray anime which have fully customized ASS subs. I saved all the fonts required in the mkvs. Now, it seems that for some reason there is something that makes the Zidoo tap out and stops playing, happens every time in the same place. It also does not load all the formating, sub location and fonts. Plex has no issues with them and it displays everything correctly. I know, I can use SRTs, but hey, again, as this works just fine in a free software, I do not see any reason why Zidoo shouldn't be able to.

Seems that the list of functions that Zidoo can't do or can't do correctly grows with each day of use...

Must admit I've been doing this for over 20 years now and have never come across ASS subs on anything.

But it never fails to make me smile.

Funny naming, I agree, but doesn't matter if they were not used much until now, they are now and they serve a purpose. Guess I got my answer, as they are of no interest for you, no fixing either. Well, I'm hoping that at least the other issues, that others also reported, are of some interest to you...
