Z9X Pro broken playback after you upgrade to 1.0.95

I allowed upgrade to the the 1.0.95G version and now when trying to play some movies it will get the Zidoo player completely stuck! E.g. tried to play a movie with the default audio DTS-HD MA and only black screen and can't control anything.. have to power cycle it to reboot..

Tried playing same movie via Emby app, can't play the DTS-HD MA but at least it won't crash the whole device.. it will play AC3 audio only..

 

Have you played that particulas movie before? I've had some problems with high bitrate movies with DTS-HD MA or TrueHD audio, i've overcome that particular hurdle "passing" the movie thru MKVToolNix. It takes a couple minutes, and then it plays flawlessly.

I don't have that problem here, same box with 1.0.95G, and runs without problem, but because it's connected to an LG OLED C2 the sound is PCM.

 

ive seen it once so far since .95 normal SG atlantis makemkv 8 gig epi rips ( all play fine ,and epi did too after a power restart ) . this was after a power on start

hasnt happened since and box is used 4-5 hrs a day easy

Only issue im noting in raised black levels only in some mlv tv epis but not too worried since x30 8k pro should be here in next week with luck

Can only think it's to do with the encode settings but nothing jumps out.

 

Same Problems here. Often when I start a 2160p dolby vision or hdr movie, the movie don't start, it shows only a blackscreen. This happens randomly, only a reboot fixes it.

But it happens again and again.
The Problems began with the new firmware.

I hope the new Z9x 8k, witch should arrive next Week, doesn't have this

Had it happen again tonight on 2 seperate tv epis
start playback after dinner and first 720p x265 mkv locked to blank screen immediately on start ...had to manually power reset with power switch at back ...once rebooted it played fine

then moved to next epi ,a 4k DV x265 (latest Evil epi) and froze up to blank screen ,thou mashing back button for 30 secs finally stepped it back to smb file screen ...epi then played thru fine

it is very random ,ie havent had it in say a week ,with 4-6 hrs tv and movie playback each day ,going fine

 

This is a known bug since many versions (atleast since november 2023; see this post where i reported it: Zidoo Z9X PRO and Samsung 82q950r)
If you play a movie with default audio DTS-HD MA (like Oppenheimer), the Z9X PRO will crash and only rebooting will fix the crash. If you try to play the movie after the reboot then it will crash again.

The only fix I found is :
go to settings - sound - HDMI audio - change auto to RAW.

 

Hey. Switching HDMI adio from auto to raw results into no sound at all.. the movie will start playing though..

 

Keep HDMI audio on RAW.

Now play with S/PDIF audio:

S/PDIF audio from off to RAW (and turning on HD audio One) and check if it works. If not then:
S/PDIF audio from RAW to 2-channel LPCM (and turn off HD audio One) and check if it works. If not then:
S/PDIF audio from 2-channel LPCM back to off and check if it works. If not then check your avr settings if it is set on auto (not sure what it is called other than denon avr)

Nothing helped.. I tried all combination from the available audio settings and still cann't get audio for Oppenheimer to work :/ neither did other movies with DTS-HD MA. I'm positive that before the upgrade to 1.0.95 it was working..

Anyway, there are no settings named "HD audio One", only switch named "Downmix HD Audio Output"..

Please also see the Tip message in SPDIF audio - "If selecting RAW output for SPDIF turn on HD audio core playback" - there is also no such settings :/

 

Try factory resetting your Z9x Pro

 

And loose all my settings? Sorry but for a try it is not worth it.. Is development looking into it?

 

I had the black screen before 1.0.95 on Z9X Pro sometimes, rarely. I am still on an older firmware since all works and I rarely get the black screen now.

Try these settings:

HDMI audio: RAW
SPDIF audio: OFF
Downmix HD audio: Downmix audio HD audio output TOGGLED OFF
Native sampling rate: auto (edid)
USB audio: USB audio TOGGLED OFF
Pass-through AMP: Pass-through TOGGLED OFF
Volume direct mode: Volume direct mode TOGGLED ON

Restart the device after setting these settings and try.

If it does not work then change this:
Pass-through AMP: Pass-through TOGGLED ON

I have the same problem (playback stops with a black screen, have to power cycle device) when trying to play MKV files with DTS-HD MA soundtracks with 2 channel LPCM via HDMI. Dolby TrueHD appears to work (so far). HDMI raw also works, but my TV does not decode these formats (PCM only) so I get no sound that way.

 

Same (random) issue here Z9x Pro.....
