I get Atmos using both Tidal Connect and the Tidal app. I prefer Tidal Connect as the app constantly crashes\restarts.
I read "DMP-A6 is unique in offering multi-channel DSD output over HDMI, and that feature is lost onDMP-A8.". Does anyone knows how the UHD8000 handles multi-channel DSD output over HDMI? The A6 and A8 support multichannel output with Roon, the UHB8000 not. Maybe this feature will come later by firmware update (my hope).
Yes the UHD8000 supports MCH DSD and it sounds superb! You invoke the Audio HDMI rather than the Main HDMI - it has two HDMI outputs and you select either through the Main Settings or easier still via the Source button on the remote
If the UHD8000 is truly Roon Ready, it should support multichannel dsf over HDMI. I suspect their is something faulty with the UHD8000's implementation of Roon.
Probably yes, it's like you say but I don't use Roon and I don't think I ever use it, so I can't answer you.
I think it maybe due to no Certication of the Device (UHD8000). No full BBC iPlayer, no UAPP at all and NO TIDAL ATMOS with the Connect App or via casting. I can only hope a firmware update will sort - I mean how can lesser models do stuff that the UHD8000 (the flagship model) cannot? Maybe @mirror could comment please?
On another forum @mirror told me they tested it on Roon and indicated that, at the time, saw no issues. Clearly there are issues and I wish he would comment further.
In my opinion it depends on the make and model of AV receiver that the UHD8000 is connected to and consequently on the EDID that is created when they communicate with each other. Reading here and there, I noticed that it works for some and not for others and this can only depend on the AV receiver.
I can play multichannel dsf files using the built in music app of the 8000. Not sure why it should be different on Roon since it is using the UHD8000 as an endpoint. I am not sure anyone has successfully reported using roon as an endpoint for the UHD8000 successfully playing multichannel dsf files. By the way -- had no problem doing this with the DMP A6.
Want to know another mystery? Why can I play Dolby Atmos through the Tidal app installed inside the UHD8000 but not through Tidal connect? These are the mysteries that no one will ever solve. In addition to being Roon Ready, the UHD8000 is also Roon tested!! https://roon.app/it/partners/120/zidoo
Roon tested means that it can use airplay in Roon. Roon ready is what is most important for full functionality. Unfortunately, this forum is more oriented toward video performance. I bought the UHD8000 as an all purpose device and expect all the functionality it has promised, especially with Roon. We have to keep on asking that they correct these issues.
@steveoat87 If it can be useful to you, I also wanted to try Roon with the 14-day trial period and everything works perfectly. It plays dsf files perfectly in 5.1 multichannel. You can see it yourself from the screenshots I attached. I have no idea why it doesn't work for you.
I see you have roon working but I can't seem to get it to work. As you can see from my screen shots, I get something totally different. I don't get the roon ready screen on my zidoo uhd8000. Can't imagine what I am doing wrong?
Looking at your screenshots, Roon does a 5.1 to 2.0 channel conversion. You need to go into the UHD8000 settings, scroll down and change the channel layout from 2.0 to 5.1. I'm attaching the screenshots for you to understand better.
Thanks for your response. It seems that there was a problem when I enabled the UHD8000 in the roon audio settings. I disabled and re-enabled the UHD8000 in roon and now everything seems fine. Thanks very much for your suggestions.
One additional issue. I am able to play multichannel dsf files well. However, having a problem playing multichannel flac files. When I play them through Roon, am getting loud white noise and don't hear any music on the file. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
