I've got same BenQ PJ as yours, then you can try with one of built-in EDIDs you can find in Zidoo's settings. IMO, HDR is the most important function of your PJ and must be on.

ok thank you, so my settings are right for optimal watching on my benq w5700, the recommended settings on the first page, vs10 for dv only, while watching 1080p movies the pj set to rec709, while watching 4k movies d cinema, while watching hdr movies the pj switch to hdr mode automatically, for dv zidoo use vs10 to hdr and pj switch to hdr mode again.

Is this player considered an upgrade from Dune HD Pro Vision 4k? The Dune has Amlogic S905X4-J chip, not sure if that makes a difference. I am looking for a good all round NAS player with excellent tone mapping so I don't have to fire my HTPC madVR all the time. My projectors are JVC RS540 and Epson UB5040. I have pledged for Valerian Max DLP 3 laser projector thru the Kickstarter which I should be getting in May 2025. Thanks!

You are in the wrong forum if you are looking to purchase the newest model Zidoo... that would be this one:

I am not looking to buy an 8k model. Just a 4k with excellent tone mapping. I have no need for an 8k version.

No way out, you have to go for Z9X 8K at the same price of 4K version.

@Markswift2003 - Hi Mark. Might be an odd question:

Is there a way to have LLDV active only for HDR/DV content?

Seems on the Sony I can force activate HDR mode, and have to say, LLDV for HDR/DV content looks very nice, but not a fan for non-hdr content.

    Ta.

EDIT - after further playing, I really like LLDV for DV content - looks stunning, but prefer native for all other content - I guess I can live with a few button clicks to watch DV in LLDV :)

BTW, my amp does not support DV passthrough, but I'd change the TX-RZ800 when hell freezes over ;)

Ok - but if you want to try it, set HDR to "Dolby Vision (For HDR, DV)".

Why do you need to a few button clicks for DV in LLDV? Just set Dolby Vision Compatible Mode to LLDV.

Ok. So I'm clear - are you saying setting DV to VS10 and setting compatibility mode to LLDV will act exactly the same as LLDV output via the LLDV edit?

    Thanks again.

Yes it's the same thing - Compatibility Mode just lets you chose how DV output is handled - LLDV or TV Led. The HDR settings then let you define what gets output as DV. The LLDV option at the bottom just overrides everything and spits everything out as LLDV.

There's no need to set DV to VS10 on it's own - if you want it all native, just use Auto.

So to confirm - for native output and to use LLDV for DV output set:

    Compatible Mode > LLDV
    HDR > Auto

@Markswift2003 ... I have been using your original .PDF settings (custom EDID, gamma curve and VS10) for outputting everything to LDDV to my current JVC X570R, which was similar to a model you had when I first bought my Z9X.

I've now made the jump to laser and am expecting a new (to me) NZ7 in the next couple of days. I know that your current NZ800 is a few leagues higher, but, if I'm not mistaken the two projectors should handle the output from the box in a similar fashion. Can you tell me how you have your box configured?

Yes, I'm pretty sure both PJs have all the same settings.

At the moment I'm using a 1000nit BT.2020 LLDV EDID and still output everything in LLDV. 99% of my content is either 4K HDR10 or 4K Dolby Vision. I occasionally use 2K stuff and that looks great in LLDV too.

I use frame by frame DTM (JVC call it Frame Adapt HDR) and I have an HDFury Vertex 2 to send a 1000nit HDR message to the projector to tell it what to expect but I don't think that's strictly necessary - have to be honest I haven't tried without the Vertex, but I'm certain you can manually set an HDR10 Picture Mode and use Frame Adapt with it.

So to mirror my UHD8000 settings, a 1619DR Z9X would be configured as below:

Playback/Automatic frame rate/Frame rate mode: Switch frame rate and resolution

    Display/HDR: LLDV
    Display/Color Settings/4K 50~60Hz: Priority YUV420 10BIT
    Display/Color Settings/4K 23~30Hz: Priority YUV422 12BIT
    Display/Color Settings/Non-4K: Priority YUV422 12BIT
    Display/Color Settings/HDMI Range: 16-235
    Display/Resolution: 3840x2160p 23Hz

Probably pretty much the same as you have now.

Thanks so much for the quick response! I'm glad to hear that there are few changes to be made on the ZIDOO side as I don't imagine that the newer JVCs have done anything to speed up handshake times...

I guess where I'm a bit confused is in the Projector's new tone mapping features. As I understood things, the VS10 engine was externally doing this process for all flavours of media and outputting it in LLDV - and HDR format that our Projectors could "understand "....
I'd like to take advantage of newer features on the Laser JVC of which frame adapt HDR is supposed to be a big deal...
But are we not processing the signal twice if we use both VS10 in the ZIDOO and Frame Adapt HDR on the JVC?
Thanks for breaking it down for the layman!

Actually the new JVCs have maybe a 5s HDMI resync time as opposed to the +15s from our old PJs :D. Big improvement!

So my reasoning for using a 1000nit Dolby Vision EDID is so that most of the tone mapping is done by the JVC and the only Dolby Vision processing is for trims that aren't related to tone mapping.

So yes, we're processing the signal twice, but each stage does a different job.

Personally with a JVC NZ7 I switched to HDR AUTO which allows better quality manual mapping!
    Just my personal opinion

Not sure what you meant by "No way out". I bought the Z9x Pro and awaiting delivery. If I don't like it I will exchange it for the 8k model.

Simple, at same price you get an updater product with higher functions and supporting 8k. Furthermore you’ll receive firmware support more frequently.

Hey Mark, my new (to me ) N7Z will be arriving early this week. I don't employ a VERTEX in my setup. Is there an EDID that I can upload to my Z9X that will be optimal for me to use to achieve the best of all worlds? If so, can you please link it here for me?
