Same problem with my X8! I haven't tried to flash other fw, but according to previous answers, it makes no sense to me. I have the latest fw (2.1.36) on it. Tried to make a factory reset for OpenWRT. SMB sharing of my attached HDD works fine but ping test for URL and starting a download on transmission fails. This is the download loaction: /mnt/sda1/Movies. Set also the LAN interface correctly. Add the IP, gateway, sub.mask and DNS. So I am waiting for solution also. But honestly I am thinking to change to Nvidia Shield TV. I have usually have problems with accessing the SMB sharing in media library. Sometimes it just freeze out. Nothing helps only a restart. It is annoying and happening frequently. But this is another topic.
