Black cuts off at 18, so pretty much close to ref levels.

Correct, only the white levels (which I agree, doesn't make a lot of sense, at the moment anway) black is pretty much fine. Same settings on the Sony, and the DR box is fine on both black and whites.

253 was a typo - corrected whislt you were posting.

Sony at 100, and Zidoo at 50 (my phone camera is not great with the exposure, but blacks are spot on):

You're better off using a Black Clip only pattern to avoid interactions caused by the display - the pattern above is more a litmus test after setting black and white levels correctly.

I assume from the file names that these files originally came from me, so you may already have this one, but this is the black clip only pattern:

As for what's going on here - I haven't a clue - I'll have to ponder on this one...

Here's your file (like I said, blacks are pretty much bang on...it's just the white levels (same settings on the Sony as used for the DR box)):

Are you using a custom EDID?

I was (the one you did me for me on the DR box for LLDV), so, just in case that was an issue, I deselected the edit and rebooted - ran the same tests, same results as before.

For ref, the auto range on the DR box never worked this end, I had to force Limited or Full and adjust the panel to match.

Can't believe I'm the only one with this issue, but, there again who knows.

HDMI range causes more problems than it should be allowed to - some TVs, eg Samsung, don't support range switching and must be supplied with limited range content, and some can be a bit freaky with it - but as I say, this doesn't appear to be that due to the black level being correct.

I'm wondering whether a factory reset is needed - no logical reason other than the old IT adage of switching it off and on again...

Be handy if someone else with a Sony OLED could chip in here...

Actually - just send me that EDID you're using - got an idea - probably won't work (at least it shouldn't) but it's worth a go...

That's exactly what I see. Also see same if I use my TV's internal media player.

So black level at 16 and white level at 253?

I see the same if I cast to my TV, so.....why does the DR box render correctly?.....the plot thickens.

Dollars to donuts, the AML box is sending the wrong levels, and when you cast from a PC, the Sony expects PC levels.

When casting is black at 16 or 0?

    And why is mine ok?

    Very odd.

Can Zidoo using this SOC bring back the Auto, Limited, Full range setting as per the DR box's? Pretty sure that's the issue (range mismatch that somehow only affects white) Mark....hence why I posted this issue - if it was something I could fix by playing with the panel.........

I'd bet my last penny, that whatever black magic is going on, having a setting/option on the AML box to be able to set Limited or Full range will fix the issue.

Right, with a clear head this morning.

@blenky - try uping the contrast in Picture Paramaters from 50 to 53 - it's not perfect, but, it tracks better (and gives HDR a bit more punch, which outof the box, I thought the AML SOC lacked the HDR punch of the DR box), and I guess its a hack/workaround until the devs get to look at this issue. A nice side effect is also reduced noise that is present in the elevated white levels.

@Markswift2003 - dont know why your AML box tracks ok, but others don't. So perhaps it's either the HDMI range issue, but only on the white levels, or, the box is not calibrated on it's default picture settings to reference levels?

I've been following this thread but it is rather over my head most of it right now. I'd like to get into all this but not sure how to start. What is a "DR Box" for example?

DR Box = RTD 1619DR range of boxes (Realtek SOC) - my Z1000pro (and yours) as an example.

AML = new 8k Armlogic SOC

And I decided to do tests on the TV picture with these three files - 1-Black Clipping, 2-APL Clipping, 3-White Clipping. Initially, I ran them on Zidoo z3000pro, where the black reached 17 and the white reached 243. Then I ran the same files directly from the TV - LG 55UH8507.AEE, where the white slightly improved - it reached 245. I decided to experiment with the TV picture settings that I had entered and with one of my already saved settings I achieved full white - up to 253. So my advice is - experiment with the settings of your TV and you will achieve results. It is confusing if you decide to put certain settings - for example, mine on your TV. They are for a specific TV model and on other models with the same settings it is possible that it behaves differently.
I want to add one more thing - when Dolby VS 10 for HDR content is turned on, the white fades after 243, and specifically only for 233. I could probably clear this up with some TV settings, but I just turn this option off and continue with HDR - auto.
Later, I may experiment on my other TV where the Zidoo 1000pro is, but I assume it will be the same there too.
