I would not be in a hurry to see 21.0 released.
Based on the history of multiple past Kodi releases, the ".0" usually has so many bugs not caught in beta testing, that it is not really stable for users until the ".01" is released soon after, to fix most of them.

ZDMC v20.2 has been very stable for a while, and as a front end for Zidoo hardware has been great (on a daily basis), even with a large library of content across multiple NAS' and HDD's.

ZDMC 21 would be great, or at least ZDMC 20.5 so we get the lastest Nexus base for mods/skins.

I'm using some video add-ons in ZDMC and found that it doesn't play in the built-in player(native) as local files. However, if I download the file to a local drive, the built-in player will use it for playback. Is this a bug or does it not work for online playback? The add-on is called SCC (CinemaStream CZ/SK) and uses the storage on webshare.cz for playback.

that is the correct operation for this Kodi fork. Local files will use the Zidoo hardware player by default (and some older SD codecs, usually DVD rips, can only be played by Kodi's software player).
Any Kodi apps installed will only use the Kodi software player.

As an extreme solution if ZDMC will no longer be released is it not possible to at least release the "playercorefactory.xml" file that can link to Zidoo's native player, so that all Kodi apk versions can be installed?
    Thank you

Zidoo need to release a f/w update with the internal Zidoo player exposed, as without that, even a properly configured playercorefactory.xml fails to call the player.

a 3rd party developer managed to get jellyfin to call the internal player using zidoo api, I am not sure why someone cannot fork kodi nightlies or main/ betas to do the same "if" there was the desire.

It may be hidden for the simplest path, but that does not mean it could not be done. If Jellyfin for zidoo dev can do it, so could a kodi dev for zidoo. "Desire"

That's valid. I just think that if the new 8k models are going to expose the internal player to 3rd party apps, then it makes sense to me for zidoo to make that availabe for the DR and BPD range via a f/w update.

Realtek was not as open as Amlogic , That may be the issue. I wasnt aware that the new 8k series was going to be or is opened up? Interesting position if so. Zidoo and Realtek though had a very tight relationship ( close the belt ) They managed to keep their secrets I guess.

Andy22 , isn't too interested in Kodi is my understanding, Only Jellyfin at the time.

Best thing is to try it for your own use. It can be installed alongside HT4 or HT5 (with the new firmware), so you can compare the two and even swap from using one to the other without compromising anything.
HT4/5 even knows when you have watched something on ZDMC (as it uses the same hardware player).

Kodi 21.1 is out. Hopefully ZDMC will be updated within this week.

What model zidoo are you using? Works fine here on the Z1000pro (DR).

Hmmm.....ZDMC will only call the Zidoo player for local file playback, and will use the Kodi player for any of the Kodi video addons.
