A good idea but I haven’t read any way to do that since getting my Zidoo a couple of years ago

What would be a good “tidy up” would be to put recently added into a Widget rather than having each individual title sprawling across the screen.

    Hello,
Due to a lack of space I have added a 2.5” HDD.
On my first HDD I have folders according to the genre of films and these folders are managed as categories on HT, so if I create the same folders on the second HDD how can I manage these two folders as one?

    Here's an example:
on HDD 1 I have an “Asian films” folder which is managed as a category, if I create a second “Asian films” folder on HDD 2 is it possible on HT to display the films from HDD1 (“Asian films”) and HDD2 (“Asian films”) in the single “Asian films” category (perhaps with the “synchronize data from other sources” option, but I haven't succeeded).
Is it possible to do what I'm looking for?
    Thank you for your answers.

Not entirely sure what you are attempting but I have 3 folders on 3 different drives all called TV, alas the titles appear in a widget along the top row called TV same for Movies and Vampires for example. I don’t put vampire titles in a spicific folder called vampires but rather put them in movies or TV folders as the case may be. HT sorts them without any action from me other than via the Pop menu adding them to the category called Vampires.

I would create a Category, pop menu, Asian Films and simply store all your movies in a folder called Movies located on each of your hdd

    Sorry,
But as my English is limited, could you tell me more about what you said because I don't really understand.what you mean by Category, pop menu...
The problem with HT is that it creates too many categories (that's why I created my category folders).

Try this - This assumes you have HDD 1 as a "Source" and HDD 2 as a "Source" in HT5:

Create a Custom Category called "Asian Films Test"

From the "Sources" screen, select HDD 1 and add the "Asian Films" folder inside to this new category - add the whole folder, not just individual files ("menu" > "Add to Category")

Now add the "Asian Films" folder from HDD 2 to this category in the same way

Now you should find all movies from both folders together in the one category.

If you're happy with that, delete the old Asian Films category and rename the new one to "Asian Films".

But be aware that if you add a new movie to either folder, it will not automatically be added to the Asian Movies Category because Custom Categories are designed to have content manually added.

    Hello Markswift2003,
    I'll try what you said.
However, you say that if I add a film to the custom category, it won't be scanned automatically... that's frustrating.
So I'll have to do things differently... and reorganize everything so that it's done automatically.
I've tried forcing the category on the NFO file, but it doesn't work.

New movies will obviously still be scanned into the library itself, but as I say, custom categories are designed to have content manually added.

If you want a category to update automatically you'll have to use Source Categories instead, so if you want Asian Movies for example to appear as one category and be updated, they would all have to be in one Source.

Another option is using Genres instead of Categories.

that's what i did ..my HDD1 “asian film” folder is indicated as a source to make it a category...i was looking to pair the HDD1 “asian film” folder with the HDD2 “asian film” folder.
I was wondering if this was possible with the “synchronize sources” option, but it must not be.
Using genres, I've stopped because you end up with the same genre several times, but written differently depending on how it's “written” during scraping (as is the case for my scraping in French).

Synchronise Sources is used to duplicate an old non active source which still has a database to a new source with exactly the same file structure - for instance if you move source locations, swap NAS drives etc.

There's no way to combine two different sources as one.

    Hello netmask,
can you tell me how you did it (step by step)?
    Does the list update automatically?
    Thanks

I’ll get back to you later a bit busy at the moment but as Mark wrote you have to manually assign new items, there’s no way as far as I know to automate it. All my movies are in folders called movies scattered over 3 sources.

    Hy netmask,
That's what I thought, so I'm going to review the structure of my HDDs...and reorganize differently:(:(

Just to know if you give priority to the nfo when scraping, by forcing the genre with an nfo editor, is it possible to create your own genre this way...I tried it once but it didn't work ( I did it just with
a refresh ) by doing a full scan again after factory configuration, does it seem feasible to you?
Unfortunately I can't try it for a few days...some works at home ...

    Hello Netmask,
I understand what you're trying to tell me...but ideally I'd like it to happen automatically, which is why I'm asking if it's possible to “force the gender” by editing it in the NFO...
(For the moment I can't try because I'm doing some major work at home).

As far as I know its not possible plus there is currently no way to update the NFO. Goodluck
