DTS-HD 7.1 audio tracks

I can´t see DTS-X tracks properly labeled when pressing the Info button on the remote, instead it always shows DTS 5.1

This is very annoying nowadays for a media player and it is a very well known bug for several years.

On the other hand, Dolby TrueHD 7.1 tracks are shown properly.

Please @mirror, could you fix that with the next firmware?

    Thanks in advance.

Most DTS tracks are in 5.1. Are you sure it has 7.1?

I think everyone's getting a bit mixed up here

    DTS 5.1 reports correctly

    DTS-HD 7.1 reports correctly

DTS-X 7.1 reports as DTS-HD 7.1 which is technically correct if incomplete

    DTS-HD 5.1 reports incorrectly as DTS-HD 7.1

It's been on my bug list for a while, but yeah, I never notice either.

I think it's reading the codec commercial name and just making assumptions rather than looking at the channel/object properties.

This bug depends on the container, e.g., with M2TS files any problem, but with MKV files every DTS-HD track (5.1 or 7.1) is labeled as a simple DTS 5.1

@mirror, This is very annoying because you have to confirm the 7.1 channels with the AV receiver.

Dune HD media players label this kind of tracks properly, so it is software related.

Again, I think you're getting a bit mixed up here which doesn't help in getting this fixed - it just confuses the devs.

    DTS 5.1 reports correctly

    DTS-HD 7.1 reports correctly

DTS-X 7.1 reports as DTS-HD 7.1 which is technically correct if incomplete

    DTS-HD 5.1 reports incorrectly as DTS-HD 7.1

M2TS and BDMV report the same although BDMV uses a slightly different mechanism so reports as 8ch rather than 7.1 channel.

DTS-HD, whether 5.1 or 7.1 does not report as DTS 5.1.

For the same DTS-HD 5.1 movie:

I will try to explain it again, the bug occurs with MKV files when you press Info button or Audio button on the remote:

DTS 5.1 reports correctly - YES

    DTS-HD 7.1 reports correctly -
    NO, IT SHOWS DTS 5.1

    DTS-X 7.1 reports as DTS-HD 7.1 -
    NO, IT SHOWS DTS 5.1

    DTS-HD 5.1 reports incorrectly as DTS-HD 7.1 -
    YES

Please, try with any MKV file and let us know your findings.

That's really odd - what firmware version?

The firmware is the last beta version: v6.4.62

I've got no explanation for that. This reporting DTS-HD 5.1 as DTS-HD 7.1 has been with us forever, but I don't think I've seen, nor do I know how, it report DTS-HD 7.1 as DTS 5.1.

But I have seen other oddities - like showing 2-channel DTS as 4-channel.

Yes, this is weird because it doesn´t happen with my Oppo 205 and my old Dune HD Base 3.0 media player.

I appreciate your help, hope more forum users can test that.

Mediainfo's detection of DTSX is not perfect and misses it for some movies, could be case here. An example I know off the top of my head is Zoolander 2. Whether it's bdinfo scan of disc or mediainfo of it demuxed it doesn't show DTSX extension, but the device decoding the track will report it and play it as dtsx

For me, no DTS-HD track reports correctly when in an MKV container. I have to change the container to TS for my Z1000 Pro to see more than just regular DTS. Making a TS track screws with subtitle timing and removes chapters, though, and I've run into a couple of rips that wouldn't convert in tsMuxerGUI. The latest one being the French UHD BD release of BAC Nord.

I have tested with some music discs and had the following findings:
    1. 192 and 96kHz DTS-HD tracks wrongly be shown as 48kHz
    2. Auro 3D tracks based on DTS-HD are not shown

All these tracks are playing fine.
