So what is the best raid setup to use 2 drives as one, as the Z20pro doesn't recognize each drive separately as I have to connect this 2 hdd bay via 1 usb cable....but the rain set up in the picture shows I can make it seem as it's just 1 storage (joined hdd) and but it doesn't actually work as it shows... What is best way to have both hdd show up on the z20pro using a raid, I have to use a raid as I can hide the hdd and thus hiding the sound they make.
There is no best way... It's all to fit your personal needs based on 3 factors: the speed vs the capacity vs the data protection in case if one of the drives fails... Depending on RAID mode you get the different mix of pros and cons within those 3 factors.
All I do is play video files on the zidoo with it. What do you recommend? Also is the regular USB 2.0 capable of 90mpbs bitrate, im currently using the USB 3.0 for the raid system but I guess I can just do 1 hard drive separately for another USB slot. But I guess those other 2 USB slots are 2.0 Unfortunately using the internal hdd bay the Z20pro has is too loud. The only reason I'm using a raid system is because I can hide it and eliminate the hdd sound
I used to use RAID 5 until I had a catastrophic failure and now I only use mirroring. Proprietary RAID is a dangerous thing if you don't understand it. Bit of a worry that RAID 0 is referred to as "Stripping" in their documentation above
OH god...so it's not good to do after all. Sure don't want to lose all my stuff. I really don't even want this raid thing, I just want to connect HDD to zidoo via a USB cable as that I can hide the hdd somewhere quiet, what's the best way to achieve this?
As @Sanctrum said, it's up to you what level of protection vs disc space you want, but with only two discs in a RAID array your options are very limited - personally I'd use RAID 1 - this means you effectively halve your storage at the expense of absolute protection - each disc is mirrored as a "backup". But its safety depends on you understanding how it works - basically, if one disc fails, you immediately replace it and it rebuilds from the other disc. When I first got involved building PCs in the early mid 90s, a very wise person taught me that hard discs should be treated as a consumable item. It's as true today as it ever was, and I'll never forget it. Always have a backup. So yeah, my honest advice if you have a RAID array with only two discs in it is use RAID 1 (Mirroring).
