I really don’t even know why it’s there or the point of having it because to me as far as I can see, It does nothing as it won’t open or play. I am trying to find a reason why it is there. I can remove it by deleting it in File Manager and keep the System volume folder off my hard drive providing I do not install another movie because if I do it comes back. DAT files are VCD Video files used for playing video from a Video CD (VCD) optical disc. The.DAT file is commonly saved in the MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 format and contains video data from the VCD optical disc. The VCD format is a home video format and was the first format used to distribute movies on standard 120mm optical discs.

HT thinks that WPSettings.dat is a legitimate video file so it shows up in HT. Another options to always exclude this file is to configure HT to always exclude files in which name includes "wpsettings" from scraping. Note that this configuration is only available in a couple of the most recent beta firmwares.

You can quickly check if this .dat file is video. Just copy it anywhere on your PC and change the suffix to .mpg That was the standard way to play old VCD discs if you wanted to save the file to a PC. I’m talking about Windows 3.1 days . Long long time ago!
