I am coming into this conversation very late, but I am just wondering if there are there any major open issues affecting the new zidoo 8k device? I saw some sort of issue with VS10 DV being talked about? I think this is the only Z9x device that you can buy right now? I don't see the original Z9x or the z9x pro listed anywhere anymore. I still have my OG Z9X so I'm good for now but just curious in case it breaks or something. Also the 8k Zidoo is $270 whereas the original and pro Zidoos were $200. So that sucks. Assuming inflation?
I have lipsync issues on mine with the latest beta firmware and I can't see any update on a potential fix unfortunately. I wouldn't buy one today.
With all these types of players there are always issues. Some users seem to have more issues than others. There is a lip sync issue (which I don't have) and that is being worked on as the number one issue at the moment. Hopefully we will see a new firmware with a fix soon. I would thoroughly recommend the 8K box but others will disagree. Maybe wait until a few more firmware's have been released before you make a decision.
I think the 8K boxes are bloody brilliant! No lipsync issues here, no crashing, no network issues, correct DV implementation (as far as P8 goes) etc etc. Unfortunately when you open a forum like Zidoo have (and I think the're unique in this) you open yourself wide open to every man and his dog coming up with every little issue and problem they can find. Not a problem that Dune or Zappitilution have. A lot of these are down to finger trouble (something I had to contend with in spades in a former life when I had one of the largest CI companies in the UK) and a lot of these are environmental problems (not talking about polar bears here...) but it makes you extremely unpopular if you tout that as the problem, which is why I pick my conversations very carefully.
I do try to stay out of discussions on hardware I don't own....but, are there serial numbers tied to release hardware? @Markswift2003 I think your one was a pre-release shipped to you by Zidoo? I would assume in this day and age, all hardware releases are made from the exactly the same hardware components, but,....I've learnt the hard way, it does not always work that way with niche products.....
I originally had an engineering model which was pre the iterative firmware updates so can no longer be updated, but since then I've had release models. There were small hardware changes in previous models as time progressed but it's way too early days for that to have happened yet, if it will at all, with the AML models.
The problems with Paramount BD Menu processing needs to be mentioned as the box explicitly claims perfect BD Menu and Seamless Branching as the new goodies. The DVD menu handling is also pending.
the z30 8k i have has better DV colour compared to the earlier Z9X Z9X pro models i have ,audio seems "fuller "too i run mine in vs10 dv for everything but DV Only thing ill say is older bluray/DVD tv epis im watching like Smallville have a noticable red shift but its not overpowering Box glitches occassionly but its mostly down to hdmi handhsaking i think (me swapping between zidoo and tv youtube playback throwing things out i think) and its pretty rare Some ppl have an issue with lipsynch ie audio behind by 150 m/s ish Ive never had it except on one VC1 movie i specifiaclly ripped with makemkv to test just that issue someone was having ,thou they only got it after rew function ,i had it immediatly But i never watch 1080p bluray rips ...so one reason i probably never see the issue MP8 not a major issue but when playing MCH sacds ,you cant choose between 2ch or 6 ch ...could on Z9X Cant get paid apps like USB Audio Player pro to work ,even with the G version ,but does on my Z9X (Z9X Pro couldnt cos it was Android TV OS so very limited ) Occassionly when moving fwd ,no audio will be heard once play has started again .have to rew a little to triggger audio back Mostly all minor things that dont happen often and were only in to like 2nd f/w since going live so nothing to panic about
Agree with Paramount disks most stick after logo - yet I do have some that work fine. I can play both ISO and BDMV without issue.
yeah does seem to be the lower quality tv epis ill see the audio stop after using fwd pretty random and rare thou
Rewind is also not working for the last couple of firmwares. The playback in general is improved over previous generations - I see more stable playback and fewer lip-sync issues. I'm using the Z3000 Pro (coming from the Z2000 Pro). These boxes could be further enhanced with a few more features for playback, such as More traditional Fast Forward handling. Currently FF "steps" are in increments of 0.25. It takes 4 presses of the FF button to reach 2x.... and 12 presses to reach 4x.... too much for users like me Slow Motion Forward and Rewind A-B repeat function ZOOM function The last three are feature requests that should be "easy" to implement...
I own an OG Z9X and now an 8K, but in separate rooms. It's quite the contrast using the OG downstairs now that I have the 8K upstairs. The 8K is much faster and feels like a modern interface comparable to what we expect these days. I don't really use HT5.0 much even on the *K, but on the 8K it can actually keep up with my 4500 movie + tons of other content library unlike the OG. I've had to use Jellyfin and the PlexToZidoo apps on the OG as my only possible solution. They run pretty well, but not as snappy as on the 8K, and currently the PlexToZidoo app takes about 13 seconds to load into my movies library even though it's working well for all my other libraries. On the 8K I have HT5.0, Plex/EMBY/Jellyfin built in apps, Jellyfin/Emby Android apps, PlexToZidoo all as functional options. The music player is solid too. I recommend it and would certainly buy it over the OG or Pro at this point. There's some quirks atm as mentioned already, but that's often the case on the older boxes, like the OG for example forcing subs on everything with the last firmware and now have to be manually turned off each time, which is worse than anything I'm experiencing on the 8K. The lack of the 2:35 UI mode is my only real complaint on the 8K atm. I would imagine that's on the firmware agenda, but you never know.
I recommend it! best player i had. comming from zappiti 4k pro hdr wich was pretty sluggish.... but this player is so snappy and when it works att 100% its a treat... with that said i had some small issues with handshake but its seems to havew gone away with the last firmware...have happen 1 or 2 times on the new fw thou. then the lipsync thing is abit of a hit and miss, hopefully it wioll be solved as everybody else mentioned above. then the library scanning is abit from day to day when you add scources...sometimes its go fast as hell and sometimes its like the hamster wheel spinns, but theres nobody there. but most of the time im just amazed how good it is.
