The power button always works via IR, whether bluetooth paired or not. Bluetooth pairing is mostly non-destructive.

Right, that's the part I needed to know, forgive my ignorance. Now it has become clear to me.

Finally, to pair it, I have seen sites where they indicate that you have to press play(4) and vol-(11) and others next track(6) and vol-(11).

Which one is really correct?

 

The procedure is literally written on the box of the remote.

 

Back to the original question in #1: “Has anyone found a third-party unit that is more substantial?”

Anyone?

The Satechi R2 looked like a nice potential candidate, but apparently only works with iOs. And probably lacks IR.

Sofabaton U2 looks a bit clunky, but does combine IR/BT. However the Library function is rubbish and makes it impossible to see if the A6 is supported. Maybe @mirror can help us out?

 

I use the Nuimo. It is hard to find and requires Roon.
