SONOS are (to my knowledge) the only company with access to the Apple Music API. But SONOS hardware (to my knowledge) only outputs up to 24 bit / 48 khz. Look up API (application programming interface) if you want to learn more about how Eversolo could get Apple Music integrated into the Eversolo Control app (like they have with Qobuz, Amazon and so on).
If there is an Android version of Apple Music, then you can side-load it... Provided it doesn't refuse to work because detecting a "rooted" device.
It is very real since you can natively listen to HiRes formats. Cast is just the control interface, it's not the best, especially on Apple devices, but it's better than nothing.
The only devices that i know that can receive the FULL capabilities of Apple Music are the Apple TV 4k device and the LG smart TVs.
The Apple TV 4K does not output higher than 24/48 (hardware limitation) but it is one (if not the only) way to get Dolby Atmos music. Dolby Atmos music is available via Apple Music or the Tidal app on the Apple TV 4K. The Apple Music app on my LG TV also does Dolby Atmos music (your TV needs to support Dolby Atmos for it to work). But I don’t see labels for lossless or hi-res, so I don’t think the TV apps / TVs can output hi-res.
Can you really tell the difference between 24/48 and 24/96 or 24/192? You assume so, wouldn’t you. In reality I bet in a true blank AB test you wouldn’t. Best to enjoy the music. Tehe Android app implementation is very good. You coul connect an iPad or iPhone to the USB audio of the Eversolo and you would get HiRes.
If album X is on Apple Music in 24/192 format, then it will be converted to 24/48 format and obviously it will no longer be bitperfect. What matters most is the quality of the mastering (and I found some very good ones at Apple), but the format is also important. As with TV, you can have 1080 transmissions that can be seen better than some 4K ones, but if you have a quality 4K one, you will immediately see the difference. I know some older people who say that they don't see any difference between HD and 4K, so age or medical problems can affect the perception of sound or image, but these are exceptions
I agree with mastering being important. We all know and remember the loudness wars. So many recordings ruined in the name of FM radio. Doesn’t matter if it’s HiRes if the dynamic range is limited.
A 4+ hour Youtube video with 5 Atmos mixing engineers discussing the ‘crazyness’ that Atmos music is (as seen from their side). https://www.youtube.com/live/cnX4pVrxqq0?si=ThYPF29s_qQeIRk_
