I understand HDMI-In is currently not enabled on RTD1296 platforms for legal reasons. I can understand this till some extend for "HDMI-In Recording" despite my view that non-HDCP protected content should remain recordable. Most Smart Android TV products in fact allow for time-shifting and recording inclusive doing so for protected content? Doing a mere pass-through of HDMI-In can never be illegal as all Amplifiers do offer this today. Already slightly better than not enabling the port at all. Anyway using Android N the deployment of PIP (Picture In Picture) should be completely legal. This way the image view of the player itself could be combined with the HDMI-In picture. Obviously typical PIP features can be added according taste and HW capabilities (sizing PIP, moving PIP, swap views and/or sound).
