It's not only few people here or your imagination, basically all the online reviews (especially on YouTube) I have come across, even those that are considered to be paid reviews (some always consider they are all paid and therefore fully positive reviews), if they have something to warn you about is related to a possibly bright and upfront sound presentation. It could be related to system matching (especially with already bright loudspeakers) and/or personal taste but this is not an isolated opinion.
Lugs is a complicated album that is deliberately harsh and disturbing, there are songs that have highlights in contrast to the vocals, others are total goosebumps, others are flat with high distortion, still others like the girl with one eye it must disturb you a minimum is the artist's will, it's a very beautiful album but in hi-fi it's like this, imagine a whole roll off, what remains of the message? It's a debut album, raw and cutting, then everyone has their own sensitivity but this is an album that deliberately places accents to make you pay attention, it's a group that I love very much. I won't talk about Oesis because I could risk legal companies, but I can say that none of their albums can be a benchmark for hi-fi chains but they are fine in cars.
it is a linear dac, in a chain a dac can influence perhaps 5% on the total sound, a dac cannot influence that much, the sound is brought home with the speakers/room, no dac, not broken, will improve or worsen an implant until it becomes tiring. Rather, we need to dose ourselves, we need to take a break, yes, too many hours of music a day are tiring.
Have you tried using the room correction on your Denon? This will have much more of an effect on taming speaker/room interactions than any DAC settings.
I think the video is 100% correct about internal own music management. Its even worse than the z9x pro home theater video management and that means something. I bought an m2 ssd and started to move but I stopped it after many shots and even more posts here. honestly I did not expect this in 2023 device with that price tag specifically designed for listening music .... and the settings and screen share and inconsistency on 100 things.. some months ago I wrote: make up your mind, get an review from an very good ux/ui pro, then implement it (then test it before distribution... other topic.. but I kept the device for tidal, sounds good for me, tidal menu is OK now. no interruptions anymore. luckily I don't have to change settings for that anymore.. I'm not an experienced user with other separate dacs but the device could and should be much more. 200 gig own music all at least flac CD quali I wanted to bring to life again. that's currently not possible. any of my various current connections from nas to speaker is much better in the moment
I'm sure most of you are satisfied with the onboard DAC performance and don't want to alter the A6 sound signature. But I personally can hear/feel a bit tiring sound from my rig (never fell asleep while playing music from A6). Have recently tested 3 streamer+dac combos at home and my A6 was clearly sounding more nervous/tiring compared to others. I like my A6 and it's sound quality in general. It's lovely little gem and I hope its DSP feature can be useful to mitigate this. Would appreciate if zidoo could provide some help (for some of us sensitive to this problem). Maybe adding some preinstalled EQ presets or a feature for import/export EQ settings via files so some experts could share their EQ settings with rest of us.
Finally a review that tells the absolute truth. Many here have been talking about it for nearly a year now and it's still not fixed. Unreal.
New beta version if someone wants to try it - music.eversolo.com/dmp/ota/DMP_A6/v1.2.66/DMP-A6_R_v1.2.66_202404232005_ota-package.zip
One of the reasons I went for the A6 was that it seemed to have lots of support. It hasn't had an update since I bought it, though granted I haven't had it that long so I'm hoping for one very soon. To be honest, it's the app that I would like to see the most work on. Sometimes it's confusing as to whether the feature is an app or unit feature. I need them to sort out album views, we really need the ability to search albums from the genre page and that's just the beginning......see my thread about features (with pictures) that I would like to see http://forum.zidoo.tv/index.php?threads/tablet-app-design-and-function-feature-requests.97894/
The App is falling out/stops often on both IPhone IOS update 17.4.1 and IPad. Waiting for an App update?
This is the beginning of the end. The competition never sleeps. Eversolo should finally equip the DMP with competitive firmware and a reliable user interface. https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/wiim-ultra.1731/page-69
A valid point. Didn't realize the Ultra was so close to launch. Looking forward to reading more details about it on Monday. Could be a possibility for my office. My hunch is there will be some kind of shortcoming(s) or miss, just like nearly every product. As wisely mentioned by other's in this forum, the pure nature of the software dev behind these streamers has got to be a very challenging and time consuming effort ensuring that everything plays nicely together. Also, what works today, could easily be broken in time based on 3rd party development and updates.
The WiiM Ultra looks to be an excellent streamer. But for me as far as features the Ultra is still lacking when compared to the DMP-A6. The lack of an HDMI output and the ability to install an internal SSD are among the biggest omissions. Was there any posting of that information here? If not it would be nice if mirror posted that information here on the Eversolo forum.
That’s a bit dramatic. All i see is Wiim copying to catch up to A8…… lets see what that OS is like first, remember you have 1 years worth of development on Eversolo even if you think its not perfect…
I’ve always taken the view that the A6 release was naively early and have supported the Dev’s efforts to fix things (it’s a great Streamer after all!). That said, the lack of communication is becoming frustrating. The outstanding issues don’t actually impact me that much as I just use the A6 for basic streaming. That said, It would be nice if the Dev’s could at least let us know if they’ve heard the issues we’re raising (for me, the loss of all playlist cover-art on restart). With the greatest respect to the ASR crew, Mirror’s first priority should be to the people who have boosted Zidoo’s profits (no matter how moany or seemingly unappreciative we may be at times), not ASR members.
I second that, well said. BTW, Auralic is also stepping into the 2K segment with the S1 range, getting shoulder to shoulder with the A8, with one of the best software I have seen so far and SOTA control app
Let me better understand what "stepping into the 2K segment" means: - 2K for the streamer (Aries S1) - 1K for the optional external custom PSU for the Aries - 2K for the DAC (Vega S1) - 1K for the optional external custom PSU for the Vega , and compared to an Eversolo A8 (which is basically all the above combined) you still miss their best-than-ethernet-cable Wi-Fi connection, a quality preamp section provided with the A8, any line-in option, an Android App and, finally, good luck to show the same attitude which is here reserved to Eversolo to the "Apple-style" Auralic support. Unless there will be any Altair S1 model, there is really no chance that even a Aries S1 and Vega S1 combination is able to go shoulder to shoulder with an A8 in terms of functionalities and value for the money at triple the price (all modules combined). Soundwise requires a comparison of course, but still... The only model which really competes with the A8 is the Altair G2 (even the Altair G1 is limited in comparison), again at triple the price, which still lacks some major feature (Touch display, Android App, etc.). Of course the Auralic lineup is a much more mature products offering and arguably offer better sound performance, that explicitly aim at an higher market tier, but I don't see the new S1 lineup from Auralic to represent a real alternative to the A6 and A8 from Eversolo for the segment.
