I can't say there's any difference in picture quality at all although there is a problem with DV black clipping at the moment (clips at 85). VS10 options are good but confusing and overly complicated. There are a few other niggles but the biggest problem is the interface and movie management - Zidoo beats it hands down in my opinion. The Dune interface is awful - honestly it's just terrible! Back in the day it was only ever really viable if you completely reskined it and used yaDis for movie management. Problem is yaDis was abandoned years ago and just doesn't cut the mustard these days and the new GUI can't be skinned. The old GUI is still available though, which is somewhat of a saving grace.
Cheers. Yes back in the day I used yaDis on my Dunes. My Collection was always pants. TBH looking at the video review it seemed that they had improved it quite a bit. Hoping for a Zidoo firmware drop very soon!?
The Zidoo does not do anything better other than the poster wall .The Dune is better in every other way and just works I have over 2000 movies and 550 TV series that all play fine via HDD and NAS drives speed is also much faster when indexing . I have now got 2 of the new Dunes Best box for ME
I don't agree. I have both. Have had various Dunes over the years and they are both good, but the Zidoo is better in control of various functions.
I totally agree. The Zidoo's worst feature is the poster wall and I can't think of any aspect where it outperforms my Dune.
Yep, I agree with you - I have multiple Dunes, including the latest 8K AML models, and of course multiple Zidoos, and apart from BluRay Menu (which I couldn't care less about) there is nothing the Dune does better at all and a whole load the Zidoos do better.
Since they fixed the poster wall scrolling with large images and large libraries I'd say it's just as good if not better than my Dune(s).
I wasn't aware that Zidoo fixed this. I have a large movie collection and browsing wasn't feasible so as soon as I got my Dune my Zidoo has been gathering dust. I will update it and take it for a spin. Thanks.
Lol no bugs for me at all trailers work so do subtitles plus a lot quicker at scanning than the Zidoo!
It has a similar number, but different, annoying bugs but the biggest problems with it at the moment are rather more fundamental.
Yes, it was fixed in .86 update. You will have to scroll through the collection once so it builds the cache and then is just works like it should.
Well farewell Zidoo I reckon I could check on this forum in 6 months and there will still be firmware issues and problems. Best of luck they need a new range of players ,And make sure basic things work from the start next time
Mine is still choppy as hell! One of the more troublesome issues I have with Zidoo is its sluggish performance. The more I scroll and interact with the poster wall, the better it gets but I wouldn’t exactly call it smooth or enjoyable. I only have about 100 movies but it looks like it’s really struggling to scroll and refresh the faster I go through them.
Something must be badly wrong somewhere - with 100 or so movies, once it's been pre-populated for the first time, there should be no problems at all. I ran test libraries of 200, 500, 1000, 1500 and 4000 movies. Prior to v1.0.86, this was the situation: But after v1.0.86: Good means after extensive scrolling the covers don't keep up and you'll eventually see a scrolling screen of blank posters but when you stop the page is populated immediately Very Good means after extensive scrolling the covers mostly keep up - you'll eventually see maybe half the posters on the page scrolling but when you stop the full page is populated immediately Excellent means all scrolling, for however long, is fully populated and immediate As I say, the wall needs populating just the once to cache images.
