Sorry, I should have uploaded the screen pic on my initial post. Here it is. If you upgrade to V1.2.37 alpha firmware you can still see it on your own DMP-A6.
Well, I don't like it... I bought the device for a clearly defined purpose. If I want, I will also buy a Christmas tree...
It appears on the touchscreen of the DMP-A6 and is visible on a tablet or smartphone in CAST mode. On your DMP-A6 or smart device (in CAST mode): from the HOME screen go to SETTINGS and tap on ABOUT. AFAIK it's only available on V1.2.37_aplha firmware, but I stand corrected if it's on earlier versions. My DMP-A6 is network connected to the internet. I don't know if this is a requirement to see the alternative screen.
May be there will be an other theme later in the new year? May be a summer-holiday-theme... Some bouncing boobs instead of christmas bells... Some sand from the beach instead of snow... Some bikini girls instead of Rudolf the Rednose...
Ok, something substancial... Amazon music now works well on my machine. But since yesterday evening there is no album cover shown in the display of DMP A6. It is only shown in the smartphone android app. A day bevor it was shown on both.
Maybe it might come early next year if you are in the Philippines? Christian Filipinos start celebrating Christmas (or at least start decorating their homes and businesses with festive stuff) as early as September 1. Most foreigners refer to this affectionately as the "ber months". Basically if the month end in "...ber" it's a Christmas month (September, October, November and December) in the Philippines. I often jive my Pinoy friends about this, but apparently they have been celebrating Christmas like this for quite a while. Personally I was a bit surprised when I saw the Christmas theme. In our overly politically correct sensitive world (which IMHO has gone mad over the issue) I half expected there would be some sort of backlash from those who don't celebrate Christmas and might find the theme offensive.
I just thought it was a nice touch and it bought a smile to my grouchy face. Given the inevitable political dimension of religion, I was pleasantly surprised also, but I guess that it can be justified as a ‘celebration/festival’. Personally, I hope that Zidoo keep this going every now and again and include other cultures - one of the aspects I’m enjoying is just how geographically/culturally disparate we all are!
