Just wondering ... how come the cheapest 4K Disc players like Sony X700 or Panasonic UB420 etc. can play all my discs without any issues but the Zidoo craps out playing the copies / rips of those discs. It cannot be this hard. I wonder if any of those players use Android or the player app from those devices can be ported to the or reverse engineered to the Zidoo
Most likely the rips themselves. I haven't had any problems with my rips from UHD, BD or DVD's to MKV. I don't bother with ISO files as I'm not interested in menu's or extras. When I rip to MKV using MakeMKV I delete all unnecessary tracks so I'm left with the video track, the best audio track and English subtitles (not SDH).
Very simple. It isn't financially viable for Zidoo (or any STB manufacturer) to be a member of the BDA (BluRay Disc Association) who hold the IPR and licencing for BDJava so Zidoo had to write their own engine.
Mark is correct, the reason BD menu support isn't perfect on any media player is because all manufacturers have had to write their own code, the BDA would never allow Zidoo or any other media player manufacturer to be a member and get access to the official code.
I would add a “again” . They did allow that in the past, though. Dune and popcorn Hour were members and had official licenses. That didn’t mean the BD menu played way better then
Now that I didn't know! But it suddenly makes sense....... But, and I wasn't going to mention this, there are a certain two STB companies who currently use the same contractor to write their software and that company uses the BDA IPR and BDJava libraries unlicenced... (And previously one of those companies, under previous management it must be said, stole the Zidoo libraries for their earlier generation of players!) I'm sure the BDA are aware of this but as yet no action seems to have been taken, although in one case, due to geography, there would be little point. It's a strange and tangled up world
The Dune handling of BluRay menus is better than the Zidoo. I am running a Dune RealVosion 4K plus box alongside the Zidoo at the moment. Video Wall much better on the Zidoo with the ID of UHD/4k etc, but I am currently unable to get DT-S audio out of the Dune - unlike the Zidoo which does brilliantly with all audio and video formats I throw at it. It appears that the pass through on the Dune doesn’t work for me, although it’s the same chipset.
