Because the resolution for Loki from DSNP = 3840x2160. You could try 'Gen V' from AMZN 3840x1600 cropped HDR and you will see black bar aren't black

It's not an issue with DV movies - I'm not sure why people have that impression. It's an issue with cropped movies, so if your movies aren't cropped, you won't see the issue

It's not a huge difference - the only way I can see the problem is with a cropped black level pattern where I know the background is black @ 64.

If you raise black level on the image, you can really see it! (apologies for the reflections)

    upload_2023-11-4_9-53-31.png

The level of the background layer is about 80.

ok, now it happened again after stopping a movie that my settings changed by themselves :(
From 4k60Hz to 180p 30Hz. And HDR from Auto to SDR. This happened after a movie stopped using Dolby Vision Vs10. Why is Vs10 even used when it is set to Auto? My TV only supports HDR or HDR10+.
Shouldn't the native Hdr10 fallback play on a Samsung TV when playing an MKV with Dolby Vision?
In any case, I then set the resolution back to 4k60hz and HDR to Auto. However, the same problems occurred again as with the previous firmware. The picture freezes and the sound continues.
I will now unplug the player and find out when exactly this error occurs. I just hope it doesn't happen as often as it did with v1.0.52, otherwise I'll have to reconnect my z9x.

HDR10/HDR10+ fallback should have been fixed in this release, but according to my tests it hasn't.

However there's someone reporting that it has so I'm not sure what's going on:

    http://forum.zidoo.tv/index.php?threads/z9x-pro-and-hdr10.96883/#post-204116

(it was in the wrong forum so you probably didn't see it - I've moved it here)

OK I thought cropped means I have a black bar on top and bottom because the movie was not full screen 16:9 and I'm of course always watching original aspect no changes on z9 or tv...

so sorry, what does crop mean? I want to check if it's black or grey on my end here.

    thanks!

It means for example a 3840x2160 video that's a letter boxed 2.40:1 presentation being cropped down to 3840x1600 to get rid of the black bars from the encoded video to save storage space.

thanks. if I'm getting rid of it how can they be grey? but anyway. not relevant for me I guess .... I never change something in the aspect ration or zoom in..

im besides my internal wishlist (currently 7 bullets) positively surprised by the device!

It's because for cropped video the background is a layer that's generated by the Zidoo with the cropped video on top.

Can confirm that HDR fallback with HDR10+ EDID was not fixed, VS10 still appears

Can you guys do the following and tell me if it works:

    1. Set HDR to Mapping HDR10

    2. Play a DV/HDR10+ title - it will play in HDR10+

    3. Set HDR back to Auto

    4. See if the DV/HDR10+ title now works in HDR10+

This only seems to work on Profile 7, not Profile 8.

hdr settings are on auto, z9x pro uses vs10 engine, and like i said no picture

Stuttering/frame skipping in picture with 4K MKV (HDR 10/DV) and TrueHD+Atmos audio track selected (as originally reported on UHD5000) has not been fixed. Still present. No problem with non TrueHD+Atmos tracks.

I can confirm that, when played from usb drive enclosure in my case.

That and that a few x265 files playing incorrectly on a Samsung HDR10 (+) OLED with the vs10 engine causes the player to crash. After fast forwarding. The player Crashes completely, or only the picture (blackscreen).
I hope we can avoid using the vs10 engine on a non-Dolby Vision TV.
It's just causing problems with my setup for whatever reason.
This is unnecessary on an HDR10 television anyway. If you want to play SDR in HDR, you can set HDR mapping.
Or am I misunderstanding this and it has an advantage on a non-Dolby Vision TV?

In any case, the firmware is more stable for me than before, but it's still not perfect

It seems that the new update fixes little.
After listening to the engineer of the new R_Volution players who did not install the new RTD 1619BPD chips because they were unusable, I am starting to think about it.

ok I had the same issue which is now fixed the issue was the NAS configuration for me and it did the same on my Z1000 and Z2000 pros.
What specification model etc is your NAS and how are the drives configured ?
