Best way to tonemap using Zidoo?

What is the best way to tonemap (preferably outputting SDR2020) using Zidoo?

I know I can set VS10 to output SDR but that is as everyone says just a black box that outputs Rec 709.

Is there a way for me to send my projector (BenQ W5800) player led LLDV as SDR2020? I am not sure if this involves an LLDV EDID or VS10 or both?

My original EDID is attached in case that needs to be modified.

VS10 is a programatical black box but the way it tone maps to Rec.709 is very sophisticated, especially if the source is Dolby Vision as it uses the RPU.

    So that's one way.

Another is just to let the PJ do it, but that will depend how good the PJ is.

And yes, you can use LLDV, and yes you need a custom EDID for that. But that depends whether the PJ can be manually set into its HDR10 mode or not. If not you need an HDFury Vertex2 or better.

You can experiment with that using the LLDV EDID included on the Zidoo and if you like it and know what parameters you want.

There are PDFs in the Recommended Settings thread.

    There's a learning curve.

The BPD boxes don't support SDR 2020.

Does that mean my pre-ordered 8000 will?

No, the only ones that support SDR.2020 are the old 1619DR boxes (original Z9X etc).

This was a Realtek feature (it was actually me that got it added!) and although the colour space was BT.2020, the tone mapping was Realtek and inferior to VS10.

VS10 doesn't support SDR.2020 but the tone mapping is way better. SDR.2020 is kind of niche and a bit pointless to be honest. It was a nice idea in the old Panasonic BD days but things have moved on.

Gotcha, I will have to do some compares. I am trying to get MadVR HTPC out of the equation since its such a pain to use. I am happy with BenQ tonemapping and have been using VS10 for my older 1080p projectors but I just happened to see a post you made at AVS saying how you preferred Zidoo LLDV to MadVR so figured I would ask. I will play around later thanks.

Yep - I've done a LOT of fannying around with this stuff - quite proud to say I was involved with HDFury a few years ago deciphering the Dolby Block and developing LLDV for non LLDV devices.

But yeah - when you get the device, have a play, and then we can talk about options ;)

I included 2 LLDV options on the new boxes - a 400nit LLDV EDID and a 1000 nit one. The 400nit is the best to try with a PJ because more of the tone mapping is done by VS10. The 1000nit one is kind of better for true 1000nit displays.

Same thing with my current 5000 right? I can try the built in LLDV EDID to see how I like it?

Yes, absolutely - but as I say, you need to be able to put the PJ into HDR10 mode manually.

I ordered an HDFury Diva to go with my UHD8000, can you point me to instructions on how to use the HDFury to convert LLDV from Zidoo to HDR for my projector to accept?

There’s a PDF in the BPD recommended settings thread that should help.

But I’m not familiar with the DIVA - I assume it’ll be similar to the Vertex.

    @FenceMan
I would try the VS10 SDR output.
SDR in SDR looks very good.
HDR10 in SDR looks very good with HDR10 at 1000nits. Zidoo or Dolby could make some improvements to HDR10 with 4000nits, the picture is not always correct in terms of brightness.
DV in SDR looks very good and the best.

I only use it like this on my JVC X9900

I’m using a z2000 + hdfury vrroom + Epson ls12000 and think everything looks really good. There are some key points to my setup

    - On hdfury, I spoof LLDV and configure it for MaxLum of 385. Everything else, follow this thread https://www.avsforum.com/threads/epson-ls11000-12000-projector-lldv-enablement-and-tuning.3262145/

    - I use xnappo’s “holy grail” calibration for the LS12000 below shared on AVS forums https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...AtCZapZz_PfphxjYDkq_7BAORsGEYQ/htmlview?pli=1

    - Configure Zidoo for 4k/23 ie 23.976 match frame rate only and LLDV under HDR settings. This keeps the Zidoo from doing excessive hdmi resyncs, and also allows the Zidoo to do 4k upscaling instead of the projector, which I like. It uses VS10 engine for pretty much everything except Dolby Vision files, and outputs an LLDV signal. For DV files it still outputs LLDV but it doesn’t say VS10 because (I think) the file is native DV. So, LLDV is handling tone mapping

It took a lot of messing about and testing, but I’ve been locked into this setup a while now, think it looks about as good as an LS12000 can in my room, and I don’t have to fiddle with HDR slider or other settings movie to movie
