Newby here, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I've just set up my Z20 and have a SATA HDD in there with a big movie collection on it. How can I access those files from a smart tv on my network? The smart TVs in my house can "see" the shared folders on my NAS, but how do I get them to "see" the HDD on the Zidoo?
Just noticed your other posts mention the Z20 Pro so in that case you need to switch on the Samba server in network settings. Also moved the post to correct forum.
Thanks for the suggestion, much appreciated, but Samba was already turned on. Thus, I can access the Z20 HDD from my NAS and from my laptop (Mac), but I cannot access it from a smart TV. I can access the NAS from the smart TV, but that doesn't give me access the Z20 HDD.
It will depend what server you're looking for on the TV - I'd guess the TV sees a DLNA server on the NAS, or some other media server presented by the NAS (could be Plex etc)? The Zidoo is not a media server as such and only runs a Samba server which presents SMB shares so the TV has to be able to recognise that so you need to figure out if and how the TV can access SMB shares.
I think the problem is that my QNAP NAS won’t let me designate a folder on a mounted external device (such as the z20, or any external HDD) as a shared folder. When I access media via the QNAP on my smart TV, I can only access shared folders.
