The only thing I can say for sure that sometime doing an additional re-boot after an update helps. Obviously it cleans any memory left overs....

No need for a factory reset. Best results using the APP on phone or tablet/ipad with cast option.
I used the APP method myself. No need to do it on the frontpanel.
