Just installed the newest firmware… DMP-A8 Looks like the new Graphic EQ only works on the digital outputs ( IIS , OPT/COAX,USB DAC) - not via analog XLR or RCA output ? Am I correct ? this is what I have … bk
Looks like it’s supposed to be there , but it’s not .. Any ideas ? can somebody check and see what they have ? bk
Use DSP. You have PEQ in there and lots more. Create your own FIR filters with Room EQ Wizard if you are into that…
I’d rather have the option for the EQ work as it’s supposed to . Does yours work , or is it like mine ? bk
With Graphic EQ, you are locked with fixed frequencies. Parametric EQ (inside DSP) will let you do specific frequencies. What would you want to change?
Ok , Thanks … I get that … I’m just trying to determine if my firmware is bad , I’m doing something wrong , or if Eversolo missed something. The EQ is clearly supposed to work on internal player and analog outputs. would you please be so kind as to look at your EQ and see if it works , or if it’s like mine ? Thank you bk
The EQ section is only for digital output - that is correct, if that was the question This is my EQ. But I only use DSP.
Thanks , But that is not what the update tutorial from “Mirror” says … So , Eversolo missed something on the official FW version…. see below … it clearly states “internal player” , “XLR/RCA” outputs…. Now , I understand that only the A6 has HDMI output, but both the A6 and the A8 have XLR/RCA outputs…. So maybe that’s where Eversolo made a mistake…. Omitting the XLR/RCA on the A8 ….
Sorry, you are right. I missed that, since I’m only interested in DSP. I think the EQ worked differently in the beta firmware. EQ is software based which probably has high demands on the CPU. Maybe this is only for the A6, since the A8 has DSP but A6 ONLY has EQ.
Yes, HDMI is only A6. I remember to have seen both a logo for DSP and EQ on the A8 during beta. But that does not seem to be possible anymore… If I output to IIS (whitch I don’t use), my DSP logo goes away and I then only see the EQ logo. Maybe it is an error and Graphic EQ will be added to A8 later or it was a choice to not put the hardware under too much pressure. The Parametric EQ only has 10 different frequencies you can add. Before it was 15-20 or so, but @mirror did state back then that they might need to cut back on that…
The PEQ is way too complicated to use properly for me . EQ is much easier for my needs …. I just want to add a little bass response . maybe MIRROR will see this and respond …. thanks for your attention … bk
The A8 has a powerful hardware DSP for analog output. The EQ function is a soft EQ implementation based on CPU calculations . If enable the" EQ" for the analog output on A8, things become extremely complicated because it duplicates certain functions with the DSP. So I'm afraid you have to create a learning curve for PEQ or FIR FILTER
Thanks Mirror . So , no EQ for the analog output , only DSP ? is there EQ for the analog output on the A6 ? bk
PEQ isn’t really that scary… Use LSHELF and an upper frequency (like 100hz in this examble) and gain (here 3db) and leave Q at 1. In this examble frequencies are boosted by 3db up to 80hz and then evens out at 100hz. Or why not try the ‘Loudness’ which boosts bass and treble.
Thanks … So , you’re saying just try adjusting it by “ear” ? I’ll play around with it …. I don’t have a microphone and the whole “creating REW filters” With a computer is beyond my scope … bk
Adjusting by ear is just fine if you ‘just want to add a little bass’. Measurements are needed to fix specific ‘problems’ with your speakers or room. Just don’t boost anything too much. And make sure the DSP gain (at the top) is at minus about the same level as your biggest boost. If you do like my example, you can start with LSHELF and 100hz boosted by 3db (Q stays at 1). If you need more, just change 3db to a higher number. If you want to boost a bigger range, just change 100 to 200 or whatever you feel like Then add your DSP config to an output (here internal player).
