My Saturday international conference: Japanese whisky, American speakers and amp, Chinese streamer, Austrian turntable and headphones and a Malaysian receiver
Hi, my setup: - Music source: FLAC via Synology NAS or Tidal - Eversolo DMP-A6 - DIY SymAsym amplifier via RCA - DIY 2-way speakers (Visaton VIB setup with 2 x 80 W / 8 Ohms) - Topping L30 headphone amplifier - Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro headphones Well, to improve the lousy positioning of the speakers in the room is my next project... Apart from that DMP-A6 sounds brilliant with my DIY A/B amp
Hi, my current system. DMP-A6 ME -> Denafrips Ares II / 12th Anniv. FW -> Yamaha A-S2200 -> Gauder Arcona 80 MKII _Richard_
Hi Richard, very neat setup, I like it! I'm also very interested by the "DMP-A6 ME -> Denafrips Ares II / 12th Anniv." combo you have arranged. Have you added the Ares before or after the A6 acquisition? Could you please describe the sonic difference between the A6 used with the internal DAC and the Ares? Which do you like the best and why? Thanks!
Tank you! I got the ARES II way before purchasing DMP-A6 ME. I would score them as equal in Sound Quality, but different in Sound Character. I like the ARES R2R Sound, especially with the 12th Anniv. FW. I find it very comforting for Acoustic Instruments (Piano, Guitar, Cello, Violin,Trumpet...etc.) and vocals. It does not excel with Electronic Music and Classic Grand Orchestra, but it´s very good. The internal DAC of the DMP-A6 in combination with the upgraded OP-Amps is a very good allrounder. I am not sure i would recommend extra buying the ARES to improve the sound of the A6 ME, i cannot speak for the regular A6. I think the connection type also matters. The clocks in the DMP-A6 ME are superior to the ones in the ARES. As far as i know, when you connect the ARES via USB the mediocre clocks in the ARES are used. When connecting it via SPDIF (Coax or Toslink), the Acu-Silicon clocks in the Master Edition are used. I doubt that this has any noticable effect in SQ. Only blind-testing could tell.
@_Richard_ What kind are your bookshelf speakers on the stands in the back? Do they sound good without a sub? I`m asking because I would like to have some ELAC BS 312 and I wonder if they will sound good without a sub. I never had booshelf speakers so I can not compare to others.
These are Wharfedale Evo 4.1. I dont´t have a subwoofer anymore, only Stereo. I use them for the TV Sound with a Denon AVR. I guess in a multichannel or surround setting you would need a sub.
The DMP-A6 is best sounding streamer/dac I have owned. Very happy with this unit owned since august `23. Have installed a 4Tb ssd, with flac, hd flac, flac hd5.1, dsf and sacd iso files. User interface also great on the unit and on my ipad and phone. No need for roon anymore. Equipment: DMP-A6, Anthem AVM 60, ATI AT542NC, Arendal Sound 1723 Tower + 1723 Sub 2. (multich.: + AS 1723 Center + 1723 Surround). I can recommend these loudspeakers, named after my hometown.
