does an ssd with a heatsink fit in a bay?

Can’t buy a ssd for my A6 before I now if it’s going to format wen I insert the ssd I have no way to format it on my one and the ssd whit heatsink fits the slot so can I please have some answers !!! I have the DMP-A6 Master version !

OK got the SSD module and the USB3 housing + Thermal Module for it.
1) First mounted the thermal module to the SSD.
2) Next mounted it to the DMP-A6 bay. It just matched the space pushing aside the rubber mounting ring at the end.
3) Fired up my DMP-A6 and under storage it found an "Unknown Device".
4) Going to the device the format option was available. It also has a field for a "new device name".
5) After formatting the new 4 Tbyte SSD drive using NTFS it became available.
All in all it worked all as it should. No problems found and yes it stays nicely cool this way.

I think it is pretty safe to mount it without the thermal module too. Anyway I like my electronics as cool as possible (but without noise).
Could not remove it anymore in an easy way as the glue is sticky and it needs to be slided out.

I got my DMP A6 and mounted a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 512 GB with NTFS and it was visible.
But I went anyway in DMP menu and format it using extFAT and now it is vanished. It does not see it anymore after formatting it IN DMP A6.
So what now? Do I take it out and format it with NTFS in my PC and plug it back?
How is that even possible that using DMP to format it would simply not see the SSD?
Firmware is 1.1.56.

 

Curious. In fact exFAT is not a bad filesystem for a SSD and should just work fine. Used NTFS myself as I am used to that mainly

 

Not the first time I hear exFAT causing the SSD to disappear. @mirror perhaps you should look into this? Or only recommend NTFS?

 

Just ordered Crucial P3, 4tb, 3.0 m.2 ssd and Icy Box coolers (5mm and 10mm thickness), so will see.
Will post opinion after they arrive and after i mount it.
@Nice Monkey, do you think that will be enough room for ssd+10mm cooler?

 

No there won't be. Mine is closer to guessed 3 mm and that is about the limit.

 

Nope, according to manual, it support's up to 4tb.

 

Have a look at the picture in post #19 on page 1. There's no way that a 10mm heatsink would fit.

 

First i will try 5mm if not fit , i will try to "shave it" a little

And is formatting neccessary if ssd is already NTFS and A6 recognise it?

Was meant to be used with the USB3 housing.

I formatted it using DMP-6A itself with NTFS. Worked next also via USB using that housing.
Finally put it inside the DMP-A6 again after populating it.
