I found this but I guess you have as well? To enable a guest login (or add a local account) in Windows 11 Home, you can navigate to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users and then add a new user without a Microsoft account. Here's a more detailed breakdown: Steps to Add a Local Account: Open Settings: Click the Start button, then click the Settings icon (gear symbol). Go to Accounts: Click on "Accounts". Select Family & Other Users: Click on "Family & other users". Add Someone Else: Click on "Add someone else to this PC". Choose Local Account: Select the option to "Add a user without a Microsoft account". Follow Instructions: Follow the on-screen instructions to create the new local account. Important Notes: Local vs. Microsoft Account: Microsoft recommends using a Microsoft account for Windows sign-in, as it offers better integration with Microsoft services and sync across devices. Guest Account is not a built in feature: Windows 11 Home does not have a built-in "guest" account like some other versions of Windows. The above steps create a standard local user account, which can be used for guests, but it's not a dedicated guest account with limited permissions. Account Type: After creating the local account, you can choose to change the account type to "Standard" or "Administrator" depending on the desired permissions for that account. Security: Be mindful of the security implications of allowing guest access, as a local account with administrator privileges could compromise your system.
You might like to check this site - seems legit and only US$10 https://gameflip.com/item/windows-1...ade-key/5908c4a3-e4c2-4409-b0fa-31b2fd88dcd7? They have an iPhone app etc
I've always used the Pro version - Windows Home is as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. Running latest Windows 11 Pro build here, and access to Zidoo shares is as easy as putting in the IP address. Conversely, I hit "Give Access To", blah blah blah and it just works the other way around too.
Did this and now have Windows 11 professional - thanks. HOWEVER... before that I had already tried to enable the Group Policy Editor in Home by using a windows hack. This gave me a partly working version but the required 'Administrative Templates' section is not working (see screen shot). I can expand where it should be but can't access any of the items. Unfortunately upgrading from Home to Professional has not fixed it. Now trying to find a way to fix it lol.
Sorted this by doing a restore. However followed instructions and still can't connect to samba share - SHARE_SAMBA. Tried with and without need for samba password. Next changed server name to ZIDO8K and still unable to connect.
Nah. Tried that and also \\192.168.0.206\ZIDOO8K - just can't find it. Tried with and without samba server password set.
wierd - must admit Window 11 is utterly utterly crap at resolving local shares, but it will always eventually get there. But my Z9X address is 192.168.0.164, I have the SAMBA server running with no authentication, and if I enter the IP address in a file explorer window it'll get there eventually:
Windows Home is not suitable for home networking requiring Guest access. If you are using a machine like the Zidoo and many others Windows Pro is the only one that works, after changing group policy otherwise MAC or Linux. Maybe the advertising shouid be amended to spell this out. A new licence can be purchased to update Windows Home to Pro.
I was tearing my hair out a couple of days ago trying to set mine up on samba....finally sorted it, no thanks to any advice in the manual or on the menus. Might be worth a try if you're still having issues? I see it was a month or so ago so you've probably resolved it or used an alternative method, but I'll post anyway as it may help others in the future. OK, so obviously check samba is activated on the box network settings, along with 'allow data to the written' - you don't need the password set. Im assuming you have network sharing permissions set in windows, so the command that worked for me when adding the network location, is: \\192.168.0.16\share (obviously, replace the ip above with whatever has been allocated under 'Windows:' on the right hand side in the Samba Service tab of Network settings on your own box.
