A recent Win 11 update messed with shares making for some people the inability to create shares to attached devices. I had this problem and after a lot of googling came up with a solution (for me). It was a Windows update that disables your ability access anonymous (guest) SMB shares. A edit in the group policy editor is needed to fix it. Run "gpedit.msc" Navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Lanman Workstation Open Enable insecure guest logons, select Enabled reboot Done! In the console tree, select Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Lanman Workstation. For the setting, right-click Enable insecure guest logons and select Edit. Select Enabled > OK. Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings> Local Policies > Security Options. Set Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always) to Disabled. Set Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level set to Send NTLMv2 response only/refuse LM & NTLM”
I activated the samba password on my zidoo and after rebooting it, i could access the samba shares from my Win11 24H2 computer.
Thank you for this. My W11 pc was recently updated and has this problem and it fixed it in minutes!!! THANK YOU!!!
I recently got a new laptop PC (Win 11) ... it updated to Win11 24H2 the second day, and there was another update the next day. When I got around to checking Zidoo access, I noticed my Z30 Pro doesn't show up on the Network dropdown. It does show an icon under Media Devices on the right, but that's pretty useless. My old Win XP PC doesn't show up anywhere, for what it's worth. They both show up on my old Win 7 laptop. The Zidoo can access a shared folder on the Win 11 PC and play video files, so that works OK so far. I tried the "Enable insecure guest logons" and that didn't work. Any other suggestions? I want to be able to send files to the Z30 Pro Hard Drive like I did with the Win 7 PC.
Did you reboot immediately after making the change? Also the other day there was a post that indicated they had to make one more additional change. I didn’t have to do it other than enable guest log in. Yes, I rebooted. I just did the additional changes (Akeela), rebooted and it didn't work. I'll check everything again... this is Win 11 Pro if that makes any difference.
Strange as I have the same Windows version and didn’t have to or know about the additional steps. Do a Google search and it will take you to several sites devoted to this problem.
Penny dropped ! Prior to the published solution I had activated the user name and password on the Zidoo. User name is root and password is 88888888. ( eight 8’s) Maybe that’s a necessary step ?
I had set the user name and password on the Zidoo and it didn't fix the problem. I also tried enabling IPV4 as suggested in other forums. Didn't work. I'll keep looking...
Just got around to trying accessing the Z30 via the IP address \\[ipaddress] in Explorer. It asked for the name and password... it worked. Had to pin it to the Quick Access, it doesn't show on "Network" until it's accessed there. Will fumble around with it some more.
It needs to be enabled after you need to make the change as part of the allowing guest log in process
At least with the last UHD3000 firmware i think SMB1 is not necessary. But there is one point: with a fresh Win11 24H2 installation you get much stronger security settings, than updating from an earlier version to 24H2. My fresh installation was with 22H2 and installing every release up to 24H2. With 24H2 i had to activate the samba password on the Zidoo.
I can no longer see the samba share. I can't do the steps described here as I have Windows 11 home - which dose not have the Group Policy editor. There was a hack online to enable it - but what I get is a not very functional version where I can't find ' Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Lanman Workstation'. I've tried connecting using 'root' and a password - but it fails to connect. Any other ideas? Cheers.
Update to Windows Professional is the only viable solution I’ve read. “Microsoft is protecting you whether you need it or not, we know better!”
