Hello, I've noticed a problem with the black bars in dolby vision movies on my Zidoo Z9X. I have an LG 77C3 TV and when I watch a film in dolby vision from the Zidoo Z9X, the black bars of films in 2.39 or 2.35 format are grayed out and not black. Whichever setting is selected, Standard LED TV DV or Player led LLDV, the black bars are grayed out. The Zidoo is not connected directly to the C3, but to a Denon AVR-X6800H amplifier. Zidoo Z9X > Denon AVR-X6800H > 77C3 How to solve this problem thank you in advance for your help Sincerely
Hello, I only have this problem with Dolby Vision. In SDR and HDR the blacks are perfect. How can I solve the problem of grayed-out blacks in Dolby Vision? Enclosed is the EDID file Thanks for your help Best regards,
Some LG TVs have a non zero value for Minimum Nits in Dolby Vision but for some reason that doesn't match the display capability. Try this EDID - I've reduced min nits from 0.008 to zero... It may work, it may not
Thank you very much Markswift2003 for your help. I have retrieved the file you modified. But i haven't had time to test it yet. I'll test it this weekend and get back to you with feedback. Is this problem linked to all Zidoo units or just the Z9X ? If I invest in a Zidoo 8K box, will I be able to encounter this problem of greyed-out blacks ? Best regards
No, if this fixes it then it's nothing to do with the Zidoo box - it's a bad EDID in the TV. With Dolby Vision, a minimum and maximum nits for the TV is declared in the EDID, if min nits is too high based on the TV's capabilities, then black shows as grey. Usually TV manufacturers get this right but I've seen it wrong before in LGs and 0.008 (the original value) is actually quite high so I have a suspicion that's the problem. Anyway - let me know when you've tried it.
Hello Markswift2003, I carried out tests this weekend with the modified EDID and the stripes now appear black in Dolby Vision mode. Thanks again for your help. Best regards,
