Any way to change name of root on SSD drive?

I’ve successfully ripped about 20 CD’s to my SSD drive. In my haste, though, I did not change the rather generic name that was given to the root directory for those CD rips. Is there any way to easily edit the name, without deleting it and starting over?

    Hi bradbort,

You can rename the root directory on your SSD by connecting Eversolo Streamer to your PC via SMB.
After enabling SMB on your PC, you can open and rename the file as follows:
    • Windows: Open File Explorer → type \\[IP] in the address bar
    • macOS: Open Finder → Go → Connect to Server → enter smb://[IP]
The streamer's IP address can be found in the 'About' section. Let us know if you need further assistance.

    Thanks!

You might want to build the ability to do this kind of edit, as well as simple things like categorizing the genre of ripped music into the app, if it’s possible. Just a suggestion.

In general, once the music is added to the library, the genre can be loaded. When the ripped CD does not contain Genre metadata, it's recommended to use Mp3tag to add and edit the ID3 info.
The URL for the download: https://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html

    Hi,

I understand that, although virtually none of the 40 CDs I ripped and genre loaded. I know I can use a third party app to add it. I would respectfully add that you consider incorporating basic editing such as genre, into the core functionality of the Eversolo

Tried this. Tried to rename, but got error message of “action can’t be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program”

Be sure there is no other program accessing that folder, such as:
    1. your PC on another explorer window, copying files for instance
    2. your PC running a media player accessing such folder
    3. The Eversolo playing...

It’s not the pc. When eversolo on the files are locked. If off I can’t reach them.

Hmmm... this leaves me with the though: is "automatic update" on? That would have the Eversolo periodically scan your library in search for uodates, hance resulting in the drive/folders/files being locked/busy... turn that off, if that's the case.
I have no other ideas, sorry...

No worries. I’ll give that a shot when I have a moment. It’s actually not a very high priority fix for me, since I usually go in through album view anyway, and the weird root name is then not visible.

What I and more concerned about is that none of my cds seem to have their genre automatically attached, and when I ask about it I’m told to use another external app to populate that data. It would be way smoother if eversolo just let folks easily edit within the eversolo itself. Also, not a huge priority for me. I only have ripped about 60 CDs, so the burden is not high, but more if an irritation than the root name issue.

The genre tag is a bit of a weird one to deal with. Not many tagging software correctly populate it (and TBH I do prefer setting the genre of my CDs by hand... this also avoids having a myriad of slightly different genres, that only clutters your library...)
Long story short: set the genre by hand. Even better, set it by hand BEFORE you update the library to include the last ripped CD...

I’ve been ripping directly in eversolo using a CD burner attached. If I had burnt elsewhere, it would have been much easier.r

    You are absolutely true.
I rip on my laptop, then check the metadata tags, then transfer the files to the device.
Ripping on the device looks cool, but in the end its easier to be done on a proper keyboard and wider screen... don´t you agree?

Yes, although it was move convenient to do the ripping while I watched TV! But given the missing genre tags and the need to rework the file if I want them, not the way to go if you are doing a lot of ripping!

You may check the permission of rename folders. "Transfer"--setting(method2 SMB)--"Allow writing data"
If the error persists, please send us a picture or video for troubleshooting and assistance.

Allow writing data is c upload_2025-3-10_7-22-18.png hecked. Here is a screen shot of the error code. Note that I can get into the file. I simply can't change its name. I presume I can't make other changes as well.

Looks like picture did not post. I checked, and permissions to write is checked. Error message says can’t write because another application has file open. I’ll try to repost screen shot shortly

Here is a screen shot of the error message when I attempt to save the name change. I also checked the attributes of the folder in windows, and unchecked read only

Greetings, bradbort. The name of your SSD cannot be renamed. You can edit the folder beneath it.

Got it. Thanks. May I recommend some more instructions when first setting up the ssd so they are aware of the naming issues. Thanks
